When running injuries hit, the decisions you make will often define the injury itself. Too often runners ignore that little niggle that ultimately becomes a nag and can end up sadly becoming a nightmare for a runner.
My son is running his first marathon in October. I told him he will learn a lot about himself over those 26.2 miles.
I don't know how many times post-marathon race I have said never again, what I do know is my wife laughs every time I say it.
As I move into my 60s as a runner some days I'm sad that one day I won't be able to do this running malarkey. That just makes me be more determined to make the best of the time I do have as a runner in my 60s.
As we age as runners, we have to be careful who we listen to. Too many people around you sometimes would have you sitting in a chair doing nothing. So be careful who you surround yourself with and who you listen to as you age as a runner.
Mindset is the key to successful endurance running. Training mindset, race mindset. Are the foundations to everything else in endurance running.
Just stopped mid-run to take in the view. Running isn't just about the time, it's about the freedom to appreciate the beauty around us. Grateful to live in such a stunning place.
Long runs are as much to to with how you perceived distance and get into a process and not to project to the end distance
What do you do when a 24-mile training run turns into 30-plus miles? You call the wife.
As the saying goes, shit happens. Its very true of endurance running. However, it's how you interpret that shit that makes the difference between success and failure.
External reinforcement of your self-worth is like cocaine. You will get addicted. There's never enough. Know your worth. You are enough.
As I get older as an endurance runner I realise it's better to stop before you get stopped. Voluntary recovery is better than fatigue or injury. So obvious. But too many runners ignore recovery.
From 13 years ago... Ran the Brighton marathon in the heat with a cap worn rapper style :) The result is a barcode shape on the front of my head!
Brighton Marathon done. Good for age time. 7th in my age category. Good day at the office.
Remember, the goal of running isn't to outrun someone else but to outrun your doubts and to constantly evolve as a runner and as a person.
Focus on constant, never-ending improvement. Forget about the rest, and just assess where you are and where you want to be.
In running, there's always someone slower and someone faster. The real question is, are you improving from where you started?
Slower runners of the world, unite! Have you ever felt 'slow' as a runner? Let me ask... Slow compared to what, exactly? Remember, everyone's journey is unique.
Running easy doesn't mean running without purpose. It means running with the wisdom to know that not every day is a race. Easy runs build endurance, promote recovery, and prepare you for the days when you push the limits.
Encountering a training challenge? View it as an opportunity to evolve. The struggles you face today are the stepping stones to tomorrow's achievements. Every challenge conquered is a victory over your former self.

At age 57 - I ran my first 100 Mile Ultramarathon Time 24hrs 37min At age 58 - I ran another 100 Mile Ultramarathon on the same course Time 22hrs 54min Hard work and Experience were the reasons for a 1.5hr PR Age isn't always the limiting factor
When I started I couldn't afford to spend money and buy success... or even training. So I replaced money with hard work, writing content for hours a day I eventually made a $7 sale That was one of the proudest days of my life.
Systemise!! I use the same system every day to ensure I've done the important work that keeps my business ticking over before breakfast.
A few years ago, I recorded a mini course as part of an Affiliate Promo. It took 3 hours. So far, that promo has brought in $300- $2200 each month. Can you imagine if I "couldn't be bothered" that day?
Made it…. My goal was to hit $200 in Medium earnings this month (month 3) Woke up to $201 today… Onwards
Longest run since October. 16km steady effort with a 5km pick up at the end. Lots of work to do between now and April but super happy with this as a starting point. Sub 1:50 half is still the aim of the game in the next race. Now I’m going to bed as I’m working tonight 😅😴
