They say autistic people don't feel emotions. But there are things I feel that most people don't seem to: - pure joy at being fully absorbed in a task: like a flow state, but with feelings of calm, fulfillment and bliss. A feeling of being most myself.

Things that help improve alexithymia: - writing - music - reading novels Things I loved to distraction and spent a lot of time on as a child: - writing - music - reading novels I was always told I was escaping and retreating with these. But I was doing work.
The bad news about being autistic/highly sensitive is we are more sensitive to bad vibrations. The good news is that we are also more sensitive to good vibrations! Be sure to create some good vibrations around you today. 🫂

- Anxiety in social situations that's not due to the social aspects of the situation (which would be associated with social anxiety disorder). For example, with distinct anxiety, it could be due to a disruption in routine... or the environment causing sensory overload
- Anxiety tied to autistic stims... not being able to access stimming activities that are typically done for self-regulation and comfort - Anxiety tied to others misunderstanding intention or meaning (which is why many autistic people often "over-explain")
I'm sure many of you are wondering what this means, so I'll share a few examples. - Anxiety tied to unexpected plan changes, changes in routine, or changes to the environment - Anxiety tied to special interests... not being able to talk about them or access them for some reason
Did you know there's a type of anxiety specific to autism that isn't explained by any of the anxiety disorders currently included the DSM? Researchers are referring to this type of anxiety as "Distinct anxiety" because it's distinct to autism and tied to autistic traits.
Is it autism, narcissism, or both? Let's talk about it. I think autistic people are often mistakenly labeled as narcissistic for a couple of reasons...

A CFP for research autistic people would actually benefit from: - study the mean girls from the playground. How are they spotting ND kids so quickly? We need to know. - study the pressures on parents to get their kids to "act normal" at all costs. Why is that a therapeutic goal?

@Pyritta Personally I think there are 3 distinct diagnoses... Autistic, ADHD, and AuDHD. Where AuDHD is totally different to either of the two on their own, and needs a totally new and different approach.
@adamfare1996 I'm not convinced they're separate things. We desperately need a combined diagnosis/assessment process
There’s growing evidence that the majority of Autistic people are also ADHD, and at least half of ADHD folk are also Autistic. So it’s time we totally re-think how we recognise, diagnose and support people… as well as understand how overwhelming living in an AuDHD brain can be.
asking autists: did you ever hide your special interests and/or feel intensely embarrassed if anyone noticed them or brought up liking them?
autistic people: did you have an interest itemizing and counting items as a child? my sister liked stacking all of our toys and taking pictures of them. my grandmother did something similar. i used to look for coins and always sat at her kitchen table counting my coins.
@mightbeautistic It led me to be an overexplainer as an adult. I almost always ended my directions with the why behind them.

i don’t inherently lack confidence. it is that being autistic in this world can be so uncomfortable. so many people doubt me. so many people don’t understand nd people. my goal is to not treat nd people like how i’ve been treated
