saw a tiktok that said “people with adhd don’t fall asleep, they pass out” and this is why it’s so hard to be both adhd and autistic because i don’t have the energy to tire myself out so i will be tired all day but then not be able to sleep at night !!!
The most recent time I was mocked for an interest was about 3 weeks ago, and I'm 37, so... yeah. I'm also hyper aware that a special interest in a person can look the same as that person being in danger and have had lots of "haha he'll think you're a stalker" comments. 🫠

When I go into autistic burnout, I lose my ability to say my thoughts verbally in a coherent way. I’ve struggled with recording video because I look out of it, no energy, stumble over my words. It’s like my brain short circuits and I can barely speak. But I write my thoughts…
someone requested written instructions at work. the person who was asked didn’t want to do it and didn’t want to show them bc it was easy. i sent them written instructions bc i know how much those are needed. i saw for first time how people see this request. they don’t get it.

@ashleyann_atx @Fantautistic My autistic son who is also profoundly gifted has always had a hard time making friends, as they have to be on his intellectual level first. He is so rigid about this that there are very few people he associates with.
@ashleyann_atx It is ok to be ok. Finding out I’m autistic actually made me happier cause now I have to tools to understand things better. It’s ok to be happy.

See, most groups don't stop talking after greeting the new arrival, so you don’t need to ask for the topic. Ostracisation; they don't want you to know the topic, they don't want you to join
I’m not diagnosed as waiting but this is a daily thing and then I feel like a liar even tho I have been diagnosed with traits.
imposter syndrome comes in waves. sometimes i am like, yes, i am definitely autistic. i can see all these traits. and i know this to be true. and other times i wake up suddenly and think, what am i thinking, i am not one bit. and i’ve completely convinced myself something untrue

late diagnosis post major autistic burnout is an intense experience. sometimes i am reminded of that time and it feels so surreal to me. i feel, did that even happen? it was so many things felt from the inside. even though i shared much of experience here, words can’t explain.

I first started an autistic women’s group nearly 20yrs ago, when there was basically zero awareness of autistic women. Now walking into my local bookshop & there’s books of autistic women sharing their stories. Hurrah! And congrats! @ItsEmilyKaty #autism

@ashleyann_atx It’s more obvious when I’m struggling or overwhelmed, but it’s always there in my thinking about how I need to conserve my resources and energy before I crash.

@ashleyann_atx I know it happens to me all time, I have to ask to everyone if they're mad at me because idk if they are I just notice the tone of voice and make me nervous
@ashleyann_atx When I first started work at 16, I found it quite enjoyable. It was manageable. I had one main job to do plus other little bits. As the years went on & I went on to other jobs, I found I was responsible for a stupid amount of tasks leading me to eventually burnout every time 😖
@notappearingint @ashleyann_atx It certainly is, the irony is that I imagine most of us are trying our best to be understandable and not be misunderstood. So I theorise that our earnestness makes the more defensive NTs think that we're trying to shame them when we express honest confusion about their confusion.
