Programming INTERVALS & STRENGTH training can be tricky 🤔 There are interference effects from HIIT on strength training & vice versa 👀.
WHY is it useful to KNOW 📊 your MAXIMAL AEROBIC CAPACITY❓❕ As with this example, we have 2 ATHLETES with the same ↔️ MAXIMAL OXYGEN CONSUMPTION. BUT, they reached that VO2max at two different running speeds ( 13 vs 16 km/h ) 😲! This may impact their INTERVAL TRAINING✅.
HOW do you test your AEROBIC CAPACITY? IT DEPENDS: ✅ If you want EXACT measurements ➡️ LET’S GO TO THE LAB! OR ✅ If an estimation will do, and you do not really need the oxygen measurement? ➡️ Any of these “field” tests, time trials or short all-out efforts will do!
What are your HIIT sessions based on? 🤔 Following your gut 🤗 or PERCEPTION on the day for how hard you are going is convenient and quick. Another option: - The highest OUTPUT you can produce 💪 AT - The highest amount of oxygen your body can use 🫁

@Alan_Couzens Figured out that my Garmin's vo2max estimate (and associated metrics, race productions etc) hugely favour HIIT/intense efforts and disincentivise (a high volume of...) low aerobic efforts. Chose to believe the consensus of coaches from Lydiard onwards over the algorithm.
