As long as AI systems are trained to reproduce human-generated data (e.g. text) and have no search/planning/reasoning capability, performance will saturate below or around human level. Furthermore, the amount of trials needed to reach that level will be far larger than the…

Well put. At least in the Anglosphere, a related transformation of the left is its shift in focus from the lower classes to “marginalized identities.” Once it championed all the poor, regardless of race or ethnicity. Now it promotes selected identity groups, including their rich.

I've been thinking about this tweet a lot recently. A related observation is that how people react to unfair attacks on their ideological/political adversaries tells you a lot about their willingness or ability to put truth above their tribalistic loyalties.

Protest is free speech. Encampments are not. Violence is not. Destruction is not. Preventing others from access to parts of campus or buildings is not. If you've been disciplined for anything beyond protest, then you were not disciplined for free speech.

Information does not become “misinformation” just because you find it offensive, or you can’t reconcile it with your favored narrative, or it undermines your political goals. It becomes misinformation if you establish its falsity through logic and/or evidence.
The crux of the matter: Princeton and other elite universities are enforcing rules selectively, depending on what students are protesting. Except on matters directly relevant to higher education, universities should be politically neutral.

@DevinLaSarre @Jesse_Livermore @lhamtil I’m a utility and infra specialist who happened to also work for ATCO and this interview was exceptional. I don’t think I’ve seen anybody give as good of an interview in this space outside of maybe Zimmer (who would also be an incredible guest). Thanks very much. Well done.
Nearly fought this spoiled brat again in the streets.
Lets go over some of the claims, because unfortunately many people I know believe this absolute retard. In fact 13% of the population believe this: 1) Large Institutions "own" all of the single family homes: No. Real Estate Investment Trusts (REITs) own ~600k homes of 80m.…

This podcast interview with utility specialist Ian Clark, head of Dichotomy Capital, was really informative and well done. Highly recommended.

Can’t decide whether it is funny, ridiculous or sad that the CEOs of Occidental Petroleum and Delta Airlines are on the new AI safety board. Less than half of the 22 members have any real AI knowledge. Also odd that it’s not even vaguely bipartisan, has zero open source AI…
1/ HOW GERMANS GET HYPNOTIZED BY RULES A tendency of Germans and especially their bureaucrats is a fixation with enforcing rules to the exclusion of common sense and (in certain eras) basic humanity. Wait for the 2 stingers at the end of this insane tale. swr.de/swraktuell/bad…

European social democracies amassed huge welfare systems last 30 years because they relied on someone else for security (USA), someone else for manufacturing (China), and someone else for cheap commodities (Russia). What do you think will happen to this model without all of it?
Whatever you make of him as a philosopher, if Nietzsche were alive today, he would absolutely crush at Twitter. This is basically a tendentious 200 character summary of the fifth most interesting idea in On the Genealogy of Morality and it has 17 million views.
