An oil change is typically a loss leader. Baby 🧵 Either a breakeven or slight loss to: -Get customer data -Increase run rate -Wow w/ customer service Much like restaurants, ppl typically don't become a customer until the third trip. Except, we only see a vehicle 2x/year.

@MattTomme Quick lube makes their money on convenience. You are in & out 15-20 mins. No inspection. A shop makes their money on repair. While slower, it provides a more rounded experience - safety inspection, tires check, etc. At my big store, synth oil is 39.99. Quick lube 69.99+

If first time customer dad brings in his daughter's car and you don't tell him the brakes/tires are wiped out and she gets in an accident, you just guaranteed yourself a bad review, a lawsuit and getting yelled at by your foreman for not selling work.
