I did my unpaid internships as a teacher in London, in the school hols. No masters or NCTJ obviously. Started as a PA. Our type doesn’t get ‘young journalist’ awards because if you get in at all it can often take until you’re 29. As a woman that’s doubly difficult.

@iamslick @TurnerNovak 😕 Problem with Snap is the product pipeline, nothing new to fuel hype. Plus Dec 18 was the bottom. Not much change from IPO. Fundamentals are dope though. Then again all tech is doing well this year especially if you look at market cap. Ad revenue been through the roof.

The blind spot is the permanent bureaucracy. Much of the federal government is neither elected nor appointed, but has career tenure & can’t be fired. Subject to neither electoral nor market theories of accountability, a rando in DC sets national policy with disastrous results.

Balaji is right. I’d add a lack of interest in corruption in state and local governments. Somehow, journalism lost interest in exposing institutional sclerosis and corruption in many of the institutions that matter.
