Most people don't realize how dangerous the unregulated supplement market is.
I wish testing every batch with label and contaminant verification was required for all supplements for athletes, general health, and especially food allergens.
Supplements are widely used by athletes, but not all are evidence based and some may contain undeclared or contaminated ingredients. This blog explores the real risks of supplement use and explains how quality assurance programmes help protect athletes from inadvertent doping.
@samsheffer@midjourney This is so awesome.
I hope to see more of this quickly follow.
No reason it should take 10+ years get diagnosed for something obvious or discoverable.
@jem_arnold Especially considering the obvious: environmental conditions and exercise type.
But also variation within the same sport depending on discipline and equipment selection.
The transition between "zones" has variability day to day
If we're training right at the top or bottom of a target zone, we might unintentionally be over or under
To be confident we're in the intended zone, aim somewhere in the middle!
Zones are big. Play around in them!
@jem_arnold Also why I think “zones” — whole incredible valuable — also aren’t magic. My zone 2 today is not my zone 2 tomorrow if external circumstances are at play.
Crowdsourcing ideas for some n-1 experimentation.
Context: I'm starting fully detrained. I was ok at rowing ~15 years ago (U23 lightweight sculler, elite/collegiate national champion). I am a physiologist and engineer, writing and videos will include interactive data visualizations.
Short-term goals: fall gravel races (UCI Denmark, Portual, Greece, ideas?)
Long-term goals: Kona, Norseman (ideas, something bigger?)
1. Which metrics should I measure?
2. Which sensors should I use?
3. What else would be interesting to read and follow?
I'm interested in endurance performance, durability, environmental physiology, and longevity in sport.
The new constraints will produce some interesting outcomes...
"Now, with an uncertain preparation for the next races, I see an interesting challenge ahead: recovering as quickly as possible and experimenting with new ways of training for races that usually require a lot of impact.
Injuries are part of an athlete’s life, and learning to manage pain is also an important part of performance. In a way, I am grateful for this moment. Without the same pressure to chase a specific result, I have more freedom to be bold, to be ambitious, and to experiment with my recovery."
