@Sectioned_ Historically I’ve known it as mh & addiction (I worked in detox for 4 years). But I’ve seen people use it for mh + autism. I feel like the term is changing? I automatically think mh + substance “misuse”
@Sectioned_ If I write it, I write something like "X has a dual diagnosis of schizophrenia and mild learning disability/substance misuse (heroin and crack cocaine)". It's basically me saying this person has needs beyond MH that need to be considered/they need support with
@Sectioned_ I hear it used to mean either MH and substance misuse or mental health and learning disability. I wouldn't say two MH conditions makes someone a dual diagnosis patient. In my mind, it's MH plus another diagnosis that isn't MH but isn't physical

What is a "dual-diagnosis" patient? I'm diagnosed with SMI plus ptsd (#iatrigenicharm) & my GP once insisted I was a dual diagnosis patient, as in 2x MH diagnoses - I thought it was someone with MH problems plus a drug/alcohol problem Which is it? Or can both be true?
i don't speak about this much but my older brother, who was autistic and had schizophrenia, died one christmas morning due to tory cuts to services. to many of us, the way writers and politicians legitimise such cuts is not a twitter debate but a matter of life and death.
Went to Tesco today to get supplies for various ailments in the family. Whilst paracetamol and ibuprofen are cheap, Buscopan was £6, strepsils were £6, rehydration tablets were £8. Vitamins were £5 ish The NHS asks people to get things OTC rather than prescribed, but they are £££

This thread shows that autistic people aren't believed when they (by frequency): - Are clearly in labor - have a kidney stone - have a failing gallbladder - have serious spinal pain and injury - have currently or previously broken a bone - have appendicitis - everything else
This is what an autistic person's pain scale looks like, sometimes I look even -more- neutral when I'm in SEVERE pain because I can't mask or mimic NT pain expressions, or even remember to say "ow." Believe autistic people's pain.
This thread turned out to be much more traumatic than I thought, sorry y’all. You all deserved to have your pain and injuries believed, to be given care, and to be take care of afterward and appropriately.
Out of curiosity - I feel like I frequently meet adults who express that when they had a severe injury as a child, their parents didn't believe them and if/when they did get care, their parents never apologized for almost killing them. Is this common?
The default response of many autistic people to any change of plans is 'NO!' Our brains perceive a threat and quickly go into fight or flight mode. Please be patient and try to give us some notice and time to adjust.
I have generated a word cloud of menopause symptoms based on a large survey of nearly 6,000 women we did recently - the larger words are the more common symptoms. Notice how many of the most common symptoms are related to the brain!

Autistic people, especially autistic children, may not realise might not know that they don’t have to push on through pain if they are told to do something and it hurts. The literal interpretation of 'try your best' is often to keep going at all costs.
I delivered to Park Lane apartments, Bloomsbury flats with swanky concierges and to the 7th floor of council flats. The bankers/Mayfair residents didn’t tip once. People in council flats were the ones who did.
Why are interventions like positive risk taking and sim-like approaches so sticky? Why is it so hard to stop staff holding on to them?
I’ve never met any ADHDer who did not nervously think “What if I don’t actually have ADHD, and I am just dumb and lazy like I thought I was?” right before their diagnosis appointment.
i don't speak about this much but my older brother, who was autistic and had schizophrenia, died one christmas morning due to tory cuts to services. to many of us, the way writers and politicians legitimise such cuts is not a twitter debate but a matter of life and death.
It’s an inquiry and not a court hearing but the Horizon Inquiry feels like an object lesson in justice being seen to be done.
