For those who have equity partners, how do you handle distributions? Do you distribute annually, quarterly, monthly? Do you have an IRR hurdle in place? Do hold all distributions until the sale?
Cold outreach deal flow: Hire a PA (upwork, etc.) to create a list of companies that fits the criteria with contact info of owners. Spend less time searching for businesses and more time calling owners.

Podcasting has taught me a lot about people. One of the most important: Ask a question and just shut up. Then when you think about talking, keep shutting up. The ability to keep shutting up isn't easy but its where people begin to tell you the gold.
Your financial model is cool. Building a genuine relationship with the seller is "cooler".
Very few things I look forward to more in my work day than popping a lip pillow and cracking a Yerba Mate open. The perfect fuel for firing off a bunch off estimates & invoices after lining guys up for the day. Even better on an empty stomach.

I used to think the spreadsheet was the most important thing. Now I know better. It’s the relationship. The spreadsheet is a supporting document.

Best GP/LP alignment of interests waterfall I've seen so far: 1) Return of capital to LP 2) Very high annual pref to LP (accruing 15%+) 3) 100% of proceeds going to GP thereafter Unless the LP makes 15% per annum, GP is literally making $0 Oh, and guess what - NO FEES!
Business buying risk assessment checklist: 1. Customer concentration? 2. Vendor concentration? 3. Undisclosed liabilities? 4. Key-man dependency? 5. Post purchase integration plan? The more you know, the lesser your risk. Do you diligence.
