@patilvishi ANSI SQL leans hard into NULL being unknown/unvalued except quietly treats WHERE clauses that resolve to NULL as FALSE. The counter-intuitive treatment of NULL trips people up all the time. But people still don't NOT NULL columns even when NULL is not needed.

@patilvishi One problem is Hash Tables are only asymptotically O(1) in time if asymptotically O(1) in space and storage is O(1) random access. Otherwise they're O(f(n)) where f(n) is the scaling of the collision handling model.

@XtremelyDad Which is exactly what we'd expect see. A change in the environment led to an evolutionary arms race. A number of mutations swept the board and created a huge opportunity. In the same way the event that made non-avian dinosaurs extinct, What we don't see is any design.

@XtremelyDad The most obvious and dramatic is of course the fossil record. We can see entirely new structures gradually coming into being. It's been a deeply researched topic in the 20th century. It's a fact as much as anything can be said to be a fact. Like the heliocentric model.

@XtremelyDad No I wouldn't say that at all. There's no evidence that life is designed and that is is evolved. The rest of your points are beyond the scope of biology. Maybe there is reason and/or meaning but no reason to think it has anything to do with any known mythology.

@XtremelyDad I'll explain. A naïve view of the solar system says it's geocentric. A naïve view of biology is life is designed. We know both aren't the case but ignorant people who cling to mythological explanations still get upset about the second one. They used to dispute the first.

@SumitM_X Globally Amazon processes about 15 million orders a day. I guess most of that table is 'COMPLETED'. I doubt a use case where performance on a query of all completed orders taking seconds is a real concern.
