Strategies that don’t work for #OCD: - replacing scary thoughts w positive ones - distracting yourself from thoughts - arguing w thoughts - trying to figure out “why” you’re stuck on a thought (e.g., trying to retrace it to trauma/childhood) #OCDweek #faceyourfear #mentalhealth

He’d always do it and walk over to me and I would ask “have you locked it? Have you definitely locked it? Are you sure you don’t want to check?”
This is very true! When I was in my teens, I was incredibly anxious about whether I had locked the front door before I left for school. I used to leave the house with my little brother, so I ended up making him be the one to lock the door so I wouldn’t have that pressure.

Additionally @LorenaFdelaC's paper found that duration between first attempt & eventual suicide is about 5 years shorter in OCD when compared with general population. So not only the risk of suicide is higher in OCD, it also kills much faster.... nature.com/articles/mp201… #OCDweek

Another point I want to make regarding OCD is a uniquely horrible part of the condition: After receiving a diagnosis of OCD a common symptom is to obsessively doubt the diagnosis. It is so twisted that OCD even tries to take away the comfort you might get from this. #OCDweek
