Example of tempo day for girls basketball 🏀 in off-season
Great in-game adjustment from the Thunder. Pelicans zone was working and they (like other zones) have a rule where the ball gets to the high post they go man - like in clip #1. So the Thunder put SGA in the middle, get the matchup vs Nance & leads to an SGA 3.
This is spot on. Free play for the win. Coaches ruin it.
How is Steph Curry able to knock down such a variety of shots? His pregame warm-ups give insight into how he practices variability. Unlike traditional spot shooting which offers limited benefits, Steph employs forms of differential shooting to prepare for various game situations
Deception separates good from great players! Deception in basketball is about creating misleading opportunities for opponents. In this example you can see Jalen Brunson masterfully faking a pick and roll, prompting his defender to react and opening a clear path to drive.
It's fascinating to hear Franz Wagner didn't play pick and roll until he was 15. This early focus away from pick and roll allowed him to develop principles of play like shot selection and spacing, often overlooked for scripted patterns.

Why do you train the way you do? ▪️ We find many players capable of passing a ball 10 meters yet fewer capable of finding & executing a solution under pressure. ✔️ For that reason my colleagues and I train applied skill and applied intelligence. #TOVO Training
How can the CLA be used in the weight room? Alex spoke to Adam De Groot about how he integrates the CLA in the weight room to challenge athletes with varied physical tasks, enhancing their problem-solving skills and promoting creative movement solutions.
At Transforming Basketball, we place a huge value when shooting on not just scoring makes, but scoring BRADs (Back Rim & Down). This acts as a highly effective external cue. As @SefuBernard states, it's not just a shot; it's a mindset!
STOP doing 5-on-0 basketball drills! ❌ Jevon Carter's choice to pass here rather than capitalize on a wide-open layup serves as a perfect example of the limitations of on-air training methodologies.
For those of you that don’t know ball… this is what happens 99.9% of the time. It’s heated in competition. Passion happens. Then it’s all love off the court/field So many people want to make mountains out of mole hills This is ball.
3v2 Contested Shooting 🎯 📝 Offense has 2 passes max after the initial kick out 📝 Offense can have 1 driver, with 2 dribbles max 📝 If offense uses a driver, the 3rd defender is activated ⏰ Offense has a 6sec shot clock #LiveLearnTeach
𝗔𝗿𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗔𝗿𝗰 𝟭-𝗼𝗻-𝟭 is a great SSG to encourage deception! -Ball handler starts with two feet outside the 3-point line, defender right behind them. -Can dribble anywhere outside the arc, entering at any angle and any time. -Offense aims to trick the defender to…

🚓 Prison Break ⚽ I love this simple game idea. You could make easier by having 3 defenders covering the square, whilst the attacker has to escape the empty side of the square. Defenders can tackle along their line. #JustPlaySports #SportsCoaching
Maximize your second-chance opportunities with Crash Rankings! This idea comes from Coach Matt Brase, a former NBA assistant coach who had an outstanding season last year with Varese in Italy. What are your favorite strategies to increase second-chance points? 🤔

MUST ADD HABIT Early Vision 👀👀 First step in developing quickness is developing vision! Notice how Kendall Marshall destroys defenses with: • Early Pitch Aheads (EPAs) • Throwing across the street • Hitting front of the rim runners Check out Link in Bio!

I once trained a TE coming off an ACL surgery. His training was ridiculously basic. He saw significant increases in speed and power far surpassing pre injury levels. Played injury free and won a NAIA natty. Training is not that complicated, it’s just cutting out all the BS.
When the so called high school “speed experts” tell you that athletes should not run slow, because it’ll make them slow, where is the research 🔬 and facts?
@max_stoneking 4/4 it’s why when high school coaches speak about athletes not doing slow workouts because it’ll make them slow (it doesn’t) they miss why that work is so important for the health of athletes. It’s a ignorant and short sided opinion based on zero facts/knowledge

Came up from 7 years ago. Still more or less same approach. Principles 1st, based in Science, methods 2nd
Part of LTAD is exposure 2 the benefits of aerobic work for long term health and wellbeing. Kids need education on the importance. If you neglect this as a coach, and don't understand the benefits, maybe rethink speaking like you're "cutting edge" or an "elite coach" #wordsmatter
@clh_strength This is correct. What happens is influencers in the athletic preparation space make general statements/opinions on slow work, which are not correct at all. It's lazy and limits the athletes health and wellbeing and gives coaches a free pass on learning about physiology.

@Results_Period The only thing that makes athletes slow is simply choosing to never run/train fast 🤷♂️ Doing things slow is fine as long as you are also training fast
@CoachHberger Purposeful: “last week did 8x100 to make athletes legs feel better… but legs were still smoked days after. This week we will do 6-8x80, decrease the pace, increase the rest and see if we can actually achieve a level of recovery here” Also purposeful: “we are building volume to…
@max_stoneking Bike/treadmill/hiking/walking/pool all are great.for heavier athletes getting them off their feet at times (although they do need time on feet as well). The exercise doesn’t really matter as long as the principles and application line up with adaptive response you’re looking for
Tempo work is crucial whether we want to publicly admit it or not. It just can’t be mindless, endless trudging around the track. Needs to be planned with purpose… not just moving for the sake of moving and making it difficult just because.

Time to switch up the coverage for Embiid, P&R popper set working every play for the 6ers. Thibs should already be planning for next game to stop this, also can’t get Donte or Hart in that mismatch against Embiid in the high post.
@HalfCourtHoops Mark Daigneault is 39 years old and coaches like he’s been in the NBA for 20 years, great heads up adjustment by him because NOP was prepared to go on a run.

If they are 'reading' what are they reading? And why is pre-adolescent play more valuable than play later? The movements of the game is complex and full of noise--so to save time and energy we acquire it (and later 'read' it) as we would a language. Young children possess…
