So much paper gets wasted by insurance companies. CVS Caremark was insistent I do a prior auth for Wegovy via fax. They wouldn’t email me the form. They wouldn’t let me do it over the phone because it was for Wegovy. They literally faxed a blank form. Intentional hurdles to care!
I don’t care what anyone says, “I feel fine but my wife made me come in” has a positive predictive value for something being really fucking wrong that approaches 100%

As horrible as breast cancer is, heart disease kills more women every single year 😔 Many don’t realize this. As a obesity/menopause/lipids doc, prevention of heart disease in women is in my core. The earlier we start prevention, the better.
Many face the reality of losing GLP-1 insurance coverage if they even have it in the first place. The drug shortages are also crazy so that’s another factor. We try to drive as much weight loss with GLP-1 & switch to cheaper meds + lifestyle factors for weight maintenance.

@DrPlantel I have BCBS and I have to get reapproved for my neuro-oncologist every 6 months and I am only a year and a half after brain tumor dx and surgery. I can't imagine what it would be like if it weren't something so clearly diagnosed. It's so dumb.
@DrPlantel Excellent share. 🙏🏻 There are good people at insurance companies, trying their best, but often there are systemic forces which make this very difficult. Broadly I would say data-driven healthcare can have great benefits, but it also comes with a cost: dehumanization.
@DrPlantel I want to do it as a retirement job. I want to approve as many things as possible before they fire me. For the one week, all care would be done!
