This isn't accurate. Most people have deductibles, anda higher out of pocket max. During the deductible phase, you absolutely pay out of pocket and should be able to price shop, and count against your deductible the best price you can find. Where the shopping analogy

@GodOfLiberals @NYHammond the highly regulated industries have gotten much more expensive. the unregulated free markets have induced competition that drives down prices (and increases value in most cases too). you should want more doctors and more insurers competing to earn your business
@JikiScott @NYHammond health insurance profits are literally limited right now. its called minimum loss ratio requirements (80% or 85% depending on size). Paradoxically, this is the biggest reason why prices have risen so much. Allowing insurers to compete with each other will compress prices down.
