The fact that SAC's first season is about how a political extremist movement was organized around a meme and the second season is about how terrorism emerged from a refugee/immigration crisis means this 20 year old anime speaks more to the politics of today than anything out now.
The sheer amount of great animators and their passion towards Jin-Roh was surely as equal as Akira; this sequence, done by Toshio Kawaguchi, is simply out of this world for all those details moving so smoothly.
Joe Lieberman leaves a towering political legacy of single-handedly killing the public option in the Affordable Care Act and spreading lies about the existence of WMDs in Iraq. A giant of the Senate.
You might be thinking "what's the big deal? It's just a few images." But look at how charmless those images are. Now imagine where this tech will go in the future. Give them an inch and they'll take a mile. Let them have this and b4 you know it, everything will be this lifeless.

y’all need to start bringing the “if he wanted to he would” sentiment to uncle sam. bc, y’all, if the gvmt can move this fast to ban tiktok, then they just don’t want us to have access to healthcare, education, child care, etc.
The House of Representatives just passed a bill that could ban TikTok.
Not raising the minimum wage.
Not lowering healthcare costs.
Not lowering housing costs.
Not lowering childcare costs.
TikTok.

@smith_john6824@MichaelToole It's probably a matter of the film being in fairly good condition, filmed *on film* so the upscale isn't as difficult, and the actual rights are cheap.
I doubt it's going to be a world-cracking remaster, exactly.
@DapsDraws Yes but the point I want to emphasize is that those articles are written by Westerners who view white as the default and everyone else as the "other." In Asia, Asian is the default and everyone else (including Caucasians) are "the other."
From: Jin-Roh: The Wolf Brigade (1999), dir. Hiroyuki Okiura, Production I.G
Mamoru Oshii wrote this film, but Okiura revised his screenplay -- getting little-known and uncredited help from Satoshi Kon along the way
@smith_john6824 There's definitely a lot of uncredited work in anime! In this case, Kon was still pretty obscure (it was before even Perfect Blue was out), and he seems to have helped Okiura without being officially employed by the studio. Basically under-the-table help between friends.
@PurpleGeth Kon discussed it on his blog at one point, and Okiura wrote about it The Anime Works of Satoshi Kon. They spent the end of 1995 and the start of 1996 revising/brainstorming on the script -- with Kon giving Okiura ideas, tips and encouragement.
Why does my brain tell me that drawing using references is “cheating”? 😣
I KNOW that professional artists use references in their work all the time, but when I consider using them myself, my brain goes, “Nuh uh.” 🙂↔️
@smith_john6824@BullMoose When Paul Greengrass replaced Doug Liman as director for Bourne Supremacy, he went a little crazy with the shaky-cam. It was still a good movie. He calmed it down considerably for Ultimatum and that's arguably the best of the bunch.
Here's a Ninja Turtle that I drew for my baby nephew. He loved it so much he asked me to cut it out so he could play with it like an action figure. Later he asked to watch Ninja Turtles so we watched TMNT (2007) together (easiest one to find on streaming). A good day!
@smith_john6824 Bland characters, the offputting CGI, the main fight being boring in part due to said CGI (Where is my 2D sakuga with good choreography? This show was super hyped up, so how?), the pacing, uninteresting plot. There was nothing in that first episode that I cared much for.
