Hopefully Senate Dems aren't dumb enough to bring this bill to the floor, but... they probably are.
@ParkerMolloy It's wild that Facebook has been taken to court for facilitating a genocide, the owner of Twitter can't stop posting white supremacist propaganda, and every social media platform has tons of misinformation / privacy issues, but they're not treated as a threat while TikTok is.
@ParkerMolloy @trashp4ndasec Basically, yes. Everyone's perfectly ok with a US company harvesting all that info and selling it to... just about anyone. It's only when a non-US company does it that Congress flips out.
@ParkerMolloy Misuse of user data is like 1% of the issue at the stake. The real risk is having a foreign-adversary-owned party be able to control what content users see ("the algorithm"). It's the same reason China doesn't allow US-owned social media companies to operate in China.
@ParkerMolloy Hedging others out of the right to farm our data out for profit. Yep.
@ParkerMolloy @smod4real Its funny but also yes. An american comapny with american interests having to much data is preferable to a foregon adversary entity. Nation states exist for a reason.
@ParkerMolloy @k1ngandduck TikTok is crack.
