It feels very unfair that the strongest teachers often get the worst-behaved and lowest-performing students, especially if they raise test scores and rarely write referrals. I saw my upcoming roster this year and felt sick.

As an AD, remind your athletes as we head into preseason practice, here are a few reminders that will help make this season a successful one. Coaches make decisions based on what they believe is best for the team. Trust the process, even when you don’t always understand every decision. Being held accountable is a privilege. It means your coaches believe in your potential and are investing in your growth. Being coached means they see something in you worth developing. Learn from both winning and losing. Success builds confidence, and adversity builds character. Both are valuable teachers. Be a great teammate. Encourage others, celebrate their success, and put the team ahead of yourself. The work you put in this summer will reveal itself this fall. There are no shortcuts. Preparation always shows. Learn to struggle well. Every athlete faces challenges. How you respond to adversity will define you more than any scoreboard. Never quit on your teammates. They are counting on your commitment, effort, and attitude every single day. Give your best effort daily. You can control your attitude, your work ethic, and how you compete. Finally, remember this is your season, not your parents’ season. Take ownership of your experience, embrace the challenges, and make the most of every opportunity. Have a great season, compete with pride, and represent your school with character, class, and commitment.

The USMNT will be stuck at the World Cup until it adopts Germany's blueprint In 2000 Germany finished last at the Euros and decided it was time overhaul the system. They built 390 regional training bases to make sure one was within 25 km of every kid in country. They hired 1,200 full-time coaches, invested €48 million per year and mandated that every pro club build a certified youth academy or lose its license The cost to families was $0 and 14 years later, 21 of the 23 players who won the World Cup came directly from the system
