@MrDanielBuck our MS does mostly literature circles where students pick from about 5 book choices- all contemporary books chosen for mostly political themes. often comic books aka “graphic novels”. 🙄

Ideology is corrupting education research. People are dismissing quality studies with findings they don’t like, and accepting shoddy studies that reinforce their views. 🧵
@kitty_pryde9 I’m aware Fordham is generally conservative. Facts are not. Reality has no ideology. Either the study is methodologically sound, or it’s not. That’s the only basis for criticizing it. Rejecting empirical work on ideological grounds is anti-science.

@MrDanielBuck These young teachers themselves have never read the "Challenging, classical texts", and that is a huge part of the current problem.
In the end, we will have wasted billions on consultants, programs, and overhauls of teaching, and we should've just been using the classical model all along. We let the communists get hold of this. Dewey, Counts, Freire, and their ilk captured entire generations of educators.

@MrDanielBuck our MS does mostly literature circles where students pick from about 5 book choices- all contemporary books chosen for mostly political themes. often comic books aka “graphic novels”. 🙄
@MrDanielBuck They seem to think, “conferring with readers” is the secret sauce to fostering motivation and reading achievement.” But when I say, nah, D.I. and holding their hands through complex texts does that, they don’t believe me.
I remember in the early 2000s, during in the Laura Bush era, enormous emphasis was placed on having students read. Yet I remember thinking there was never any discussion about *what* students should be reading. We now know what was filling the bookshelves, & youths' heads.

@MrDanielBuck Agree 100%. Teaching should instruct. Reading for pleasure is a different story. That’s where you can read whatever you want. The thing is, we know this. It was all just an excuse to get rid of classical texts with pesky ideas like individual rights and freedom and self-reliance.
