The biggest competitor for you is not another product, it is your user’s time.
I really want a platform that lets me write my newsletter on my phone. So much so that I’m considering @SubstackInc again. Then I realised they’ve got this new Notes thing, and that’s the only way you can publish from your phone. What is the point of this differentiation?
You can choose to spend your time criticising stuff that doesn’t work, or spend your time figuring out how to make it work. Choose wisely
Personally, I think AI products should not rely on annual pricing to determine PMF right now. The tech is changing too fast. You want customers to come back every month and pay you to prove reliability.
My working hypothesis is that you have to pick between one of two strategies for an AI company: - Option A: build something reliable & get people to pay ASAP - Option B: aim for the sky and admit you will spend 1-2+ years in R&D (may be more) Anything in between will die
If you’re building with LLMs, planning for 100% accuracy is a fools errand. Instead, admit you will have some failure rate and help users course correct quickly. Over time, bring the error rate down.

LLMs are excellent at taking a natural language query and taking action. If this is the case, one of the largest opportunities is create value for users by meeting them where they are. The best interface is actually no interface at all.

AI agents add the most value for the "long tail" of workflows. Long tail = there is so much variance every time the workflow is run that a dedicated product is either not viable, or not possible.
Golden rules for getting structured output from LLMs: 1. Provide examples of the structure you want 2. Use formatting in your prompt. I recommend XML - we use Claude a lot. 3. Provide an explicit out, ie. what to do when it can’t stick to the JSON you want
