Nothing that anybody has ever thought about or felt towards this woman is due to HER, based on what she says. One absolute truism in life: when everybody got a problem with you... it might be you.
@natesmithdrums I wrote about this a lot, in my books and articles. I keep coming up against the problem that once people get things for free, they ain't ever paying again. The only solution seems to be direct contact between artist and fan. Almost nothing in-between.
@natesmithdrums I was just talking to one of our peers about how fortunate we are in the jazz scene that live performances and bodies of work are still highly valued. Especially the former.
@natesmithdrums Most definitely. I can imagine someone like Seth Godin suggesting that artists in niche genres probably should hone in on some sort of hyper mkting (pre & post-performance). I mean, successful businesses build, engage & nurture their communities...
@natesmithdrums @Jazzfuel I hear that - but important to remember that the Record Industry has played a textbook Capitalism con trick on it; what they’ve done is reassigned the value elsewhere.
@natesmithdrums As you mentioned, I think it's about each artist/label/venue building stronger direct-to-fan relationships and making those people eager to support. In terms of the industry as a whole revaluing... pandora's box is open!

I talked @ this today in class as my students are getting into their final projects (creating. marketing plan). They've spent most of their formative years seeing ppl pitch hacks and "proven" formulas and templates and tips to game the algorithm. But you GOTTA DO THE WORK.
