From lyrics to press releases to updating biographies to pitch emails. I've been writing a ton for personal use (as opposed to journalism). Really, wading through words and shuffling sentences. Editing, discussing, formatting. It's a shlep but it's also wonderfully satisfying.

@LydiaLiebman It's so sad to me that both she and Judee Sill felt this way, coming up in the shadow of other singer-songwriters. They felt unsupported and then also battled addiction. Just a heartbreaking thing and loss.

@Jazzfuel Ja, that was his thought. Just to get something on paper that could then be chiseled and shaped. It'll be fascinating to see how it starts to further infiltrate bios, reviews, profiles, etc.

There were a lot of answers-many citing duos, not trios, and not too many pre-2000's. And, of course, swap out voice for horn and there are more examples.

@Jazzfuel I was writing a press release for another musician & my husband suggested using ChatGPT (after I’d already finished the release). We plugged in info to see what it came up with. Was very interesting to compare and analyse the quality (too generic even with specifications).

@otherhouses It breaks my heart. She was so fekkin' good. Feel similarly about Laura Nyro, though I think Sill was a cut above (or I just enjoy her writing more). It's also sad how she felt she wasn't supported in the industry, as her peers were. Sigh. All so sad.

@PMeadowsMusic @Jazzfuel "Start new relationships with" is a GREAT MO going into jazzahead. I think many musicians assume they'll come away with a gig or a deal or something tangible. The reality is it's a place to foster and nurture relationships that could, maybe, lead to something way down the line.

@Jazzfuel ...Then spend the rest of the time hearing great music and seeing musician colleagues, peers and friends. Enjoy being part of the community gathering and know you're gaining experience, if nothing else, by attending the conference. Nothing to be lost, something to be gained.

@Jazzfuel It's easy to feel like a bottom-feeder as an artist attending a jazzahead or similar. To avoid this, have a couple of meetings scheduled (informal, buy the person a coffee or drink, speak plainly, don't get lost in the shmooze)....

@Jazzfuel Make sure you understand the reality of the conference-primarily for industry folks to meet with industry folks and to see showcases so that they can liaise with industry folk to support those showcasing artists.

@Jazzfuel ...who books someone similar to you. It could be a manager you want to meet because, down the line, you might be someone they'd want to work with. There's nothing wrong with "get to know you" meetings but make sure the person you're meeting is a fit for what you're selling.

@Jazzfuel For artists: Identify four or so industry people you'd like to meet with because you've done your people research, thought about your goals, and you know exactly WHY you want to meet them. It could be a label that is a fit for your music. It could be a booking agent...

It is insaneeee how many ridiculously good projects hit my inbox every day looking for representation yet I cannot consider them even a little because they're due for release like... tomorrow. Please stop doing this to me guys! 😭

@Jazzfuel I took out “way” with the same in mind 😂 it’s applicable though & tough love is needed because folks snooze on the follow through. It makes me heartsore. After all that time, money and effort to record the thing and it gets released without best foot forward 🥴

Best take away from today's @Jazzfuel mail-out (if you're a musician & you don't get these, why haven't you subscribed?! Do. It.) that so many musicians with new rekkids fail to understand: Starting to plan a press campaign less than two months before the release is too late.
