What a privilege to tell this amazing story.
Friends & family of retired Associated Press sports writer Denne Freeman gathered in Dallas to memorialize his passing at age 86 earlier this month. Freeman spent 32 years with the AP. He affectionally acquired the nickname of ‘Wire GOD’ by colleague Verne Lundquist.

Today would have been Konrad’s 35th birthday. I met him once when he was a kid. He told me he wanted to be an pro athlete just like me. He realized that dream, but it was cut short by an aneurism. He donated his heart and saved my life. Happy birthday Konrad, together forever.
