When I was a young, naive post-9/11 Republican, I remember trying to assure my non-GOP friends that after Republicans won the House, Senate, & W.H. in 2004, a golden era of limited government & free enterprise was right around the corner. (As conservatives are well aware, Republicans are always using the excuse of not having quite enough power to finally start cutting govt, so this seemed like, for the first time ever, they had all of their ducks in a row.) Alas, instead of using their unprecedented control of the federal govt to advance constitutional principles of decentralization & free markets, Bush abandoned privatizing Social Security & instead added a new entitlement program called Medicare Pt. D (basically a slush fund for Big Pharma); he also nationalized education w/ NCLB, & then after reckless monetary policy imploded the economy, went all-in on socialism (TARP), which then set the stage for Obama to double down w/ TARP 2.0, $1 trillion in worthless "stimulus," nationalizing the auto industry, & finally the ultimate insult, ObamaCare. After this experience I learned that you should never vouch for politicians, especially Republicans. My expectations for the first Trump Admin were low, and he largely met them, doing good things w/ energy & the WHO but bad things w/ Covid & overall spending (i.e., never vetoing a single Democratic spending bill). So my expectations were dialed pretty low at the start of his second term, & I can only say ... this is the most excited I've been about politics in my 30 years of tuning in. Having private sector experts like @elonmusk taking a Milei-style chainsaw to the federal bureaucracy is the course-correction Americans have been needing since the advent of the Great Society. It's pretty much the only possible way we can might avoid a collapse of the dollar under the weight of $35 trillion in debt, and the resulting chaos that would inflict on society. I'm still generally of the opinion that our problems are too deeply embedded to reverse w/ a slimmed down federal workforce (as I pointed out last year, even if the entire federal govt was shutdown, it would still be running deficits & thus exacerbating the cost-of-living crisis). But the good news is that common sense has become cool again, & momentum is building. Who knows, maybe before the end of the Trump Admin he'll have privatized entitlement programs & returned the dollar to a gold standard. So, to answer Democrats: Yes, this is exactly what we voted for.

Here is the nature of selective justice: You think you’re a normal citizen, doing normal things. But probably you’ve committed dozens of ‘crimes’ just in the last year. You don’t know what they are. And prosecutors don’t know what they are either, and they don’t know who you are. There are so many laws on the books that anyone could commit crimes and not know. Every schmuck has committed a tax crime accidentally. But if you run afoul of powerful folks - they will find the crime and destroy you. They go through that book of ‘crimes’ no one reads and use it. The ‘crimes’ are not really crimes - not rape, theft or murder. It could be a bookkeeping error. But the prosecutors will pretend you are a serial killer. And demand everyone view it that way. Meanwhile there are other prominent people - politicians even, Joe Biden even - who have violated all the same laws, even more flagrantly, and no one pays attention. The justice system is a huge scam. A blizzard of laws selectively applied against opponents of the deep state regime. That’s the reality.
