What “doesn’t kill you” first + foremost doesn’t kill you. The healing work YOU engage in to deal w/ what didn’t kill you, but DID dysregulate you, CAN *sometimes* help you create resilience + inspires growth. STILL, that’s NOT why you went through what “doesn’t kill you.”…

Directness and transparency is a love language for people healing from trauma.
For real. Being a survivor of childhood sexual abuse and now having to deal with complex PTSD did not make me fucking stronger. It gave me a lifetime of struggle that has led to shame and guilt and an inability to just function at times.
What doesn’t kill you can: •dysregulate your nervous system •trap itself in your body •steal your sense of self •make you wish it did I don’t know what “makes you stronger” means but let’s stop glorifying trauma as a life-lesson we’ve been blessed with. -Dr. Jen

@drjenwolkin Well said! I find it hard to keep up a routine especially because of dissociation/freeze issues. Exercise can trigger really painful and uncomfortable feelings in your body and make you feel worse, not better.

I’m not saying you HAVE to get vulnerable and that it’s a must for healing. Some people heal in private and with their insular support and that’s OK. I AM saying that if #TaylorSwift could make an entire livelihood and career from it, it can’t be all that bad? 🤷🏻♀️(this is a meme)
@drjenwolkin All I can say after finding 2,500 pages of notes I hand wrote during a project in 2021, is "yep." This doesn't include typed status reports or other notes. After I put them away, I never saw them again until I recently "found" them. Maybe the writing helped me remember?

@drjenwolkin It was an earthquake. They get less upsetting the more frequently you experience them. Ask any Californian. My rescue pup is as upset as you are! It’s a natural response to the stimulus. It reminds us we aren’t in control.
