I'm not the first person to coin this saying, but it is proving true. Early in your career, say yes to most things. Later in your career, say no to most things. First, it's about expanding surface area. Then, it's about focusing on something you can make an impact on.
I assume that while you won't be able to flatly restrict someone from taking another job, companies will still be able to protect their IP and trade secrets. Code, methodology, active client/pipeline lists. IP lawyers should get lots of business from this.

2 years post acquisition or merger, acquirers should dust-off the spreadsheets used to justify the transaction. 80% of the time, the estimates didn't play out, because they overestimated: 1. How much integration could occur in 24 months 2. How much cross-selling would happen
Had an incredible chat with a mentor last week. It had been way too long. Years. He might have been the single most formative figure in my career from ages 23-35. How do you all stay in touch with key mentors, esp. those who you might not naturally cross paths with very often?
Good managers know they need to motivate their team. Great managers invest the extra effort to understand what motivates each particular team member. It is the difference between managing a team and maximizing the potential of a team.
The further I get in my career, the more this Walt Whitman quote resonates: "I have learned that to be with those I like is enough." I want to work with people I enjoy, and work with clients I enjoy.
Renewed the farmland lease with the guy who rents my land. Known him since he was a baby. Grandparents knew each other well. So did our parents. The negotiation maybe took 5 minutes. Lots of exciting change these days, but sometimes nice to do things the old fashioned way.
Developing new business (or selling) is a cumulative endeavor. The new customer or partnership you land today very well had to do with something you did 3, 5, 10 years ago.
