@tyromper I love this idea, Ty. I do something similar. I’ve been investing $1 / day per kid since each of them were born. As they get older and start having summer jobs I match whatever they earn and put it in a Roth. Same concept - give them a head stare and let compounding do the rest!

Bryan Black the CEO of ChipletZ, holding his first HBM baby - the Fiji GPU. I credit Bryan’s passion and persistence to the existence of HBM today..story follows I first met Bryan in 2007-8 right after AMD acquired ATI - he was working for AMD. He was doing a “skunkworks” project on what people considered crazy then, high-bandwidth, low-power new memory..the cpu folks weren’t interested as they didn’t have a compelling need. He needed some support to keep his experiment going. Us GPU types were suckers for bandwidth, so we lent a hand. But then I left for Apple early 2009 and came back in 2013. I was expecting that the HBM program would be dead and Bryan would have long left the company..to my surprise Bryan kept it alive with “stone souping” . This isn’t easy by any means, as AMD went through some very tough financial times between 2012-2016. After I got back we committed Fiji on the roadmap, but there were lot of concerns about risks of this new tech and costs. Fiji was in stop-start mode many times. Bryan & Joe Macri drove the memory vendors and packaging houses to commit and reduce the risks. Looking back it’s a bit of miracle that Fiji worked and we shipped it in 2015. We should have put much larger compute die than we have, but hindsight…... This is story of HBM1 and I don’t think there would have been HBM roadmap without HBM1 shipping in volume on PC. Kudos to AMD management , Bryan, Joe and the Fiji team - the AI world has HBM today.

An environment where we can be surrounded by other big thinkers and ambitious minds. Some people experience this on their college campus, but then leave and never experience anything like it again. How can you place yourself in an environment where you'll be pushed to think differently, to think bigger? Find your 15th century Florence—in the physical or digital world. Spend as much time as possible there. The value will be profound.

I can't stop thinking about this question: Are you willing to sprint when the distance is unknown? In 2021, Georgia Tech strength coach Lewis Caralla delivered this epic speech to the football team. If it doesn't get you motivated, you may need to check your pulse... He opens with a few harsh truths: • Winning isn't loyal to you • Winning doesn't care about you • Winning doesn't care how sore you are • Winning doesn't care how hard you work • Winning doesn't care how much sleep you get But it's his question that stuck with me: Are you willing to sprint when the distance is unknown? The willingness to sprint with no clear view of the finish line is rare. It requires two things: 1. A deep belief in one's self 2. A deep belief in the mission If you have 1 but not 2, you won't be able to do it. If you have 2 but not 1, you won't be able to do it. You need both. In my observation, the greatest things in life are accomplished when you're willing to sprint when the distance is unknown: The sprint to care for your loved ones in their time of need. The sprint to build something meaningful. The sprint to serve others and create positive ripples in the world. Goal: Find those rare things in life that you're willing to sprint for when the distance is unknown. That, to me, is the definition of winning. "And why chase winning? Because the only thing that's guaranteed in life if you don't chase it is losing."
