Consider asking this interview question. I developed it 24 months ago. It's currently my most effective question to ask to identify high performers and individuals with great self awareness.
It's incredible how much attention must go into the internal employee experience to influence the external customer experience. Show me your P&L and one can identify what you care about the most. Invest more into your teams to win the customer!
You likely don't have a customer service issue. You have a recruitment, interview, and hiring challenge to solve. The individuals you're hiring may not have the desire or ability to deliver great customer service. Fix the hiring process, fix the customer service.
For the record, I don't have children (yet). But, one thing that acts as a regular measure for me is a single question that I ask myself, "If I had children, would I be proud that they worked at Brasa Peruvian Kitchen?" (whether I owned it or not). #companyculture
My opinion on industry competition. When they are bigger: study them. When you're equal size: beat them. When you're bigger: keep it that way.
