Time in text should not be replaced by read alouds. BOTH are needed when intermediate grade students have word recognition skills that are significantly below grade level.

This has been one of the best changes I’ve made to MY teaching instruction. I TELL them the answers; I NEVER ask them to guess. Instead of “what sound do you think this letter makes?” TELL THEM “this is the letter b and it says /b/.” Instead of “what do you think the word…
And lots of mistaken ideas then get implanted in kids' brains. Have seen this LOTS with word meaning.

This is precisely why I believe that #MTSS should include language screeners too. A language disorder is different than a learning disability. We don’t want to misdiagnose, because we want the best possible interventions- especially with ADHD-DLD dual diagnosis. #DLD #LD #ADHD

Excellent article by @YoungSukKim19 3 principles for effective integrated reading-writing instruction: a) leverage assessment data in reading AND writing b) ensure development of lower-order skills & WHILE also supporting dev’t of higher-order c) make R/W connections visible.
