@CohenSite Love Pasadena, grew up there and the new multifamily buildings look nice. But they famously hold up plan check approvals for years and years over the littlest things. Wish they were faster and tiny more lenient on design to help get more projects thru and treat houseling crunch

Interesting! Low importance ratings for reducing parking minimums and increasing market-rate infill strike me as good. They're not popular policies, but they're essential for affordability; low salience means state officials can do what's necessary w/o being punished at the polls

The market rents for 1-bedrooms in the MacArthur Commons building at BART are 9% lower than the 80% Area Median Income threshold for 2-person household. Meaning the rents are now at subsidized, (middle-) lower income housing levels. The building opened in 2019.
Half of all *market-rate* rental housing built since 2010 in Sacramento is affordable at 80% AMI and fully 9 out of 10 units are affordable at 120% AMI. We should be honest that "workforce" affordable housing programs are almost certainly a distraction
Elevator redundancy isn't something architects have paid much attention to, and it isn't in most codes (and probably shouldn't be, at least for now). But it'll become a growing issue as the population ages. It's a challenge in mid-rise point access blocks, but it can be solved
