As of 2022, which sector has the higher GVA/worker ratio: textiles manufacturing or management consultancy?
If our economic system was such that everyone got paid the same amount regardless of what job they did as long as they had decent competence, what jobs would be most undersubscribed and oversubscribed? (assume education & training provided)
Some exciting recommendations in this report, that reference research led by @IfMCambridge and supported by us lot at @CambridgeEcon cetas.turing.ac.uk/sites/default/…
Great piece by @j0ne_s_ that highlights the importance of building a strong, independent progressive YIMBY identity (watch this space 👍👍) newstatesman.com/comment/2024/0…

Main takeaway is that dividing by cities, large towns, medium towns, and small towns is a really unhelpful and uninsightful way to cut the data

No it doesn't. George doesn't understand how financial transactions are made and confuses the payment layer with the settlement layer. Honestly what a waste of his time writing this abject nonsense and my time skimming it and repeatedly wincing.

These are sensible proposals from Labour. As we (@jrf_uk) wrote recently, this approach will work best if Govt takes an active role in land assembly and master development, using uplifts in land value to pay for the infra needed to make sites work. jrf.org.uk/housing/the-mi…

@Mick_O_Keeffe it's just some guys having a chat, you racist weirdo
@alison_tomlin Yes absolutely. And it is of course unsurprising (and an indicator of what has gone wrong with economic policy) that a male PPE graduate looks at it and sees only an endorsement of his own value, not the underlying inequalities that have inflated that.
@DavidHenigUK It's an echo chamber thing. You pay your creatives less and then you say "look they're paid less, they must be worth less."
On the whole "Britain sucks, Americans are so rich they can earn $75k as a fast food manager in rural Texas" thing. Yes it's instructive in some ways, but you could go and earn £65k as an Aldi store manager in Lincolnshire and buy a nice big cheap house there. But do you? No.
@dandolfa I know you're mostly joking, but that's not evidence of "economic coordination" whether via markets or central planning.
@jamesbashford3 @TheCricketerMag @tjaldred Imagine any kid going to a premiership game and saying he liked the fireworks best and not Salah or Foden. Just wouldn't happen. This is incredibly short sighted and superficial
@Gilesyb @Noahpinion Nope. No he hasn’t. Random thoughts put on paper. It is incoherent and at times nonsensical. At times it is nothing more than a circular argument. Yes, tasks have been automated but productivity has increased because of that, along with compensation. We are back in 1830 or so.
@AdamLBrown3 @ChrisGiles_ Ah I get it, problem with the ordering. Hmm, need to fix! I think it’s a problem with the labelling not with the actual axis, but will need to investigate. Thanks for pointing out (aka ‘don’t do things in a rush’).
@AdamLBrown3 A big question, but based on this data I am not convinced doubling down on services - as the @resfoundation have suggested - is the answer.
@AdamLBrown3 @davecookcricket I disagree, but I enjoyed the debate though 🤝
@_thewkcoach Hi. I know this is how WK coaches are told to coach these days, but I'm not personally all that convinced by this technique. Maybe it's because of the level I play at (low!) but I think it's better to get your head leg side as early as possible once you see it going that way.
Our simulations show that price shocks in 9 sectors generate a much larger total inflation impact than all other sectors. We call these systemically significant prices. 5/
