Go @joshfwaldman!!
I was just the Under Secretary for Economic Affairs at the U.S. Commerce Department. Here's the economic research that was really helpful to us. (Thank you @mattyglesias for the opportunity to guest-post!) slowboring.com/p/the-economic…
This is extremely exciting!!
Thread with some of my favorite charts from the 2024 Economic Report of the President Huge props to @econjared46, @HBoushey, @KiraboJackson, and the tireless @WhiteHouseCEA staff for deepening our economic understanding And for the beautiful charts 😍📊
Today, the Council of Economic Advisers under the leadership of @econjared46 released the 2024 Economic Report of the President. whitehouse.gov/cea/written-ma…
Tonight’s the night … State of the Union! I’ll be live-tweeting the President’s speech. 1/
Bidenomics has generated a historic job boom in clean energy.
Sharing another chicken photo in response to overwhelming demand from my Twitter followers. I’ll return to econ retweets shortly…
Today’s State Employment data show that 46 states had an unemployment rate below 4% for all or part of 2023. A new blog from CEA describes how, compared with past recessions, the recovery from the 2020 recession was remarkably equitable across states. 1/ whitehouse.gov/cea/written-ma…
This week, @ENERGY announced the selection of a consortium to help provide demand certainty for the Regional Clean Hydrogen Hubs. A thread on why demand-side policies are important tools to grow the clean hydrogen industry… 1/energy.gov/oced/articles/…
Big news: this week, the Administration announced $623 million in grants, funded by the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, to help build out the electric vehicle charging network. @POTUS’ EV charging investments are emblematic of the Bidenomics theory of growth… 1/
CONFIRMED: Erika McEntarfer to be Commissioner of Labor Statistics, Department of Labor By a vote of 86-8.
Today, with colleagues at @WHOSTP, we released a brief about progress on the President’s investments in clean energy. As 2023 comes to an end, here’s a story of how far we’ve come and where we’re going in the years to come—told through nine charts. 1/ whitehouse.gov/briefing-room/…
The US is breaking records when it comes to EV sales. The latest forecast estimated that the US would reach 1 million annual EV sales by 2026, but the data available today show that we’ve already surpassed that benchmark—18 years earlier than we thought in 2021. 9/
Last week, Ohio opened the nation’s first EV charging station funded through the National Electric Vehicle Infrastructure program. Now a new blog shows how building EV chargers is emblematic of Bidenomics: a smart investment that supports competition and creates good jobs. 1/
In October, I shared a blog on clean energy investment and job growth. New data through the first half of 2023 shows the clean energy job gains continue… and are driven by employment in electricity transmission and distribution and clean electric power generation. 1/

1/ @econjared46 is a terrific policymaker and the President is lucky to have him leading the @WhiteHouseCEA .
3/ Second, this nominal inflection point is remarkably steady through time, but this means that the *real* price at which the media begins to talk about gas prices has decreased by nearly 1/3rdover the past 20 years.
1/ @nealemahoney and I are back at it, along with our wonderfully talented colleague @giacomofcr, examining Bad News Bias in gas prices. Using a dataset of over 1.1 million transcripts from 2004-2023, we make several new findings. briefingbook.info/p/bad-news-bia…
@jasonfurman Fully aligned. @econjared46 is brilliant, evidence-based, and so empathetic when it comes to economics—to the great benefit of American workers, households, and our broader communities. One random interview (of 100s) does not reflect his value to our profession or the country.
The Department is proud to announce that three recent Yale economics graduates have been honored through the @NSF Graduate Research Fellowship Program (GRFP): Jack Kelly (‘22), Sarah Moon (‘23), and Naomi Shimberg (‘23): economics.yale.edu/news/240502/ja…
So don't be a jerk. Don't play into the hands of viral bad faith gotcha. And be thankful that someone as thoughtful and decent as Jared has committed so much of his life to advancing economic policy.
I worked w/ @econjared46 closely for 3 years at CEA. We discussed fiscal policy & financing often. His views are well-known, well-articulated, & public. This gotcha clip circulating is deceptively framed: the interview was done back in Feb 2020: pre-CEA, pre-Biden, & pre-pandemic
+1 @econjared46 is one of my favorite humans I’ve ever worked with - I learned so much from him every day

@noahqk @marthagimbel @weakinstrument @APasnau @sarah___wheaton I saw it—it was the share of former CEA staff you can describe as “fun.”
@weakinstrument @noahqk @APasnau @sarah___wheaton Because the twitter interface is now terrible I have no idea what we’re all yelling at Ryan about and refuse to scroll up in the thread: Team Anna and Sarah
Sorry folks I meant to tag the person whom I am tweeting this for! @APasnau
@weakinstrument I often agree with you (and love disagreeing with Anna whenever possible) but having seen the graph in question @APasnau is 100% correct
Much has been made of the strength of the job market, but have you noticed how remarkably stable it has been. UI claims are low and have barely budged in months. Some 250k jobs are being consistently added to payrolls each month. And unemployment has been steadfast at below 4%.
