Couldn't do a deadbug. Built my own program. Now 80 hanging knees to elbows and 5k's at 60. Rebuilt instead of fused. Not medical advice. #SixtyPlusStrongsixtyplusstrong.com Seattle, WA areaJoined April 2026
@erik0015@MPelletierCIO Remembering the exact date it started tells me how bad those months were. Mine hit in my mid 50s, and the turn started with the right imaging and a PT who taught me what I was actually working with. That's my story, not advice, but I'm pulling for you, Erik.
Before I could run, I walked. For a year. It felt like nothing was happening. It was the opposite. Now I'm 60, running trails three times a week. #SixtyPlusStrong
@erik0015@MPelletierCIO Two-level spondy at 56 here, so I know what working through the pain years feels like. Four years of boring daily stability work later I'm pain-free at 60, and I hope your five go easier than they sound.
@Michael_Osteo Careful and boring is where all my progress came from. Two-level spondy at 56, and the daily decompression and stability work is why I can race trail 5ks at 60.
Berthusen Memorial Park, Whatcom County. Forest, river peekaboos, one meadow that opens out of nowhere. Four years ago I couldn't walk a block. Now I drive north just to run under taller trees. #SixtyPlusStrong
Didn't know this was being taken. Cougar race #3, ten days into a cold, 31:05 at 60. Healthy June me ran 29:17 on the same trails. August 8 I get another shot.

Why I switched from iPhone to a GoPro for runs.
The iPhone overheated and cut off after about 10 minutes in the sun. Tried every workaround, none held up.
The GoPro doesn't quit. That's the whole story.
What do you film your runs on?
@Michael_Osteo Stabilization over symptom chasing is the whole story of my last four years. Two-level spondy at 56, fusion recommended twice, and the boring stability work is what has me racing trail 5ks at 60.
A 5k three times a week. That's not my warmup. That's the workout.
At 60, on trail, after a back rebuild.
Every foot strike is a decision. Gentle and efficient, the whole way.
What's your everyday distance?
Official: 31:05 at Saturday's Cougar Mountain 5K. First race at 60, ten days into a cold. The legs showed up, the engine didn't. Healthy me ran 29:17 in June. He races August 8. @NWTrailRuns#SixtyPlusStrong
@tomgoom The under-the-surface list is what saved me. Two surgeons recommended fusion for my spondy at 56, and it took sleep, diet, vitamin D and four years of patient load management, not just the exercises, to get me racing trail 5ks at 60.
@AppleStateWa@Michael_Osteo The on-and-off is the part nobody warns you about. I had two years where I couldn't predict a good week from a bad one, and the good days kept talking me into overdoing it. And yeah neighbor, most of my miles are up on Cougar these days.
@AnglyRun That heavy-legs-on-purpose feeling is its own kind of satisfying, peak week doing its job. I raced Cougar #3 on Saturday while fighting a cold, the legs were there but the engine wasn't. Enjoy the recovery week, NYC will feel earned.
@AppleStateWa@Michael_Osteo Flooring work on your knees makes this a different animal. Can't tell you what's right for your case, just mine. Two-level spondy at 56, a PT who taught me instead of treating me, four years of boring stability work, and at 60 I run trail 5ks. Rooting for those five years.
First race at 60 is done. Ten days of a cold, sinuses kept me up all night, raced @NWTrailRuns Cougar #3 anyway. Feels like I gave back about a minute from last month. Official results pending. Congrats to everyone who ran well out there today, fast field. #SixtyPlusStrong
@PhysioMeScience This tracks with my n of 1. The slow strength route is what rebuilt me after two surgeons recommended fusion at 56, and I'm racing a trail 5k this morning at 60 on the same boring hip and core work.
First runs at 60: Flamengo Park, Rio de Janeiro. Running path along the bay, rowers out early, volleyball before ten. The rule survives the birthday. #SixtyPlusStrong
@AlhajimaiHonda Been in that chair, two-level spondy at 56 for me after two years of guessing what was wrong. The physio route they gave you is the exact road that rebuilt me, four boring years of it and I'm racing trail 5ks at 60, pain free.
Eight days before turning 60: a 5k through the Costanera Sur in Buenos Aires. Winter down there, street market at the park gate, skyline over the lagoon. I run wherever I am. #SixtyPlusStrong
