Located on the then Bombay-Golconda trade route, this used to be a vital water resource for drinking and irrigation.
DidYouKnow? MLA Pesarattu, a green gram dosa stuffed with upma, is so named because it was first served in the Assembly canteens of Hyderabad. Off the menu, the item was (secretly) made for some MLAs. The chefs used to replace the normal potato filling with a scoop of upma.
DidYouKnow? Thatte Idli, a popular breakfast item in Karnataka, derives its name from Kannada Thatte, meaning “plate” because of its size and shape.
DidYouKnow? The “Pichwai” style of painting depicting tales from Lord Krishna’s life originated about 400 years ago in the town of Nathdwara near Udaipur. It derives its name from the fact that it is typically “hung behind” the sanctum of Lord Krishna’s manifestation, Srinathji.
DidYouKnow? Jagtial (also pronounced Jagityal) in Telangana derives its name from Jack and Tal, two European engineers who have designed a defence fort surrounded by water bodies in the 17th century. The fort is in the shape of a star.

DidYouKnow? Mysore Pak was first prepared in the royal kitchens of the Mysore Palace by a cook named Kakasura Madappa during the reign of Krishnaraja Wodeyar IV.
DidYouKnow? The Ram Raja Temple in Orchha, Madhya Pradesh, is the only temple where Lord Rama is worshiped both as a God and King that too in a palace. He’s also given a gun salute by the police. Apart from sweets, a "paan" is offered as a prasad for the devotee here.
DidYouKnow? Medak in Telangana derives its name from Telugu "methuku," meaning a "grain of cooked rice." The region is known as methuku-seema for the abundant cultivation of the rice crop.
DidYouKnow? Haldighati, a mountain pass in the Aravali range, derives its name from the yellow-colored soil of the region. In Hindi, turmeric is known as `haldi’ and a valley is known as ‘ghati’. It’s also the battlefield where Maharana Pratap Singh fought with the Mughals.
DidYouKnow? Kumbhakaran literally means “the one with pot-like ears.” He once performed penance for NIRDEVATVAM (Absence of All Devas), but by the slip of tongue he asked for NIDRAVATVAM (Sleep) & Brahma granted it. As a result, he slept for 6 months of the year continuously.
DidYouKnow? Kurnool in AP derives its name from Telugu 'Kandenavolu,' meaning a place where 'kandena' is applied. In the past, it used to be the greasing (kandena/కందెన) point for bullock carts carrying stone slabs for the construction of temples in Alampur, Telangana.
DidYouKnow? Warangal in Telangana derives its name from Orugallu, meaning “single rock." The Kakatiyas, who ruled Orugallu as their capital, were known to build monuments out of a single rock. It's also known as Ekasilanagaram in the past.
Loophole, figuratively a means of escape, was originally a slit in castle wall that allowed archers to rain down arrows. The loopholes would be narrow on the outside but wide on the inside allowing the archers to hit the attackers from multiple angles without exposing themselves.
DidYouKnow? Addicts were originally slaves surrendered to Roman soldiers. Today anyone who surrenders to a habit (and becomes a slave to it) is known as an addict.

Maha Shivaratri literally means the “Great Night of Shiva.” According to legend, those who worship Shiva on this day, staying awake through the night, are released from many lifetimes of sin.
