My last day teaching at @UMaineLaw. I can’t adequately express how blessed I’ve been. And the parting present was pitch perfect.
My students and former students are all saying lovely things to me today that are making me very verklempt. This is such a great job. I will be very sad to leave Suffolk Law in late June, but my successor is fantastic and is going to do brilliantly with the next clinic class.

Everyone is talking about the initial exam. delays at the USPTO, and obviously that is bad. But I feel like not enough people are talking about the response processing times. I don't understand why the software didn't just send this response to her immediately back in 2023....
So I filed an office action response fixing a single small issue in a trademark application on Dec. 15, ~4 months ago. The examiner just informed me that she still hasn't even /seen/ that response. What on earth is going on in the document processing department over there?

OpenAI tried to register GPT for “downloadable computer software for using language models”. The Trademark Office refused registration because it stands for “generative pre-trained transformers” and that term is generic for those goods. Generic . . .
