McFAUL: I want to applaud Trump for trying to end the war. The problem is they talk to Russians, but after that, you don't see a strategy for ending the war in place. First, Trump likes to talk about cards. Well, they gave away their two best ones — denying Ukraine membership in NATO and ending U.S. assistance to Ukraine — and they got nothing from Putin in return. Number two, the structure is chaotic. These guys, Kushner and Witkoff, fly to Moscow all the time. Neither of them has ever been to Kyiv. Henry Kissinger famously coined the term "shuttle diplomacy." They're just shuttling to Moscow, not to Kyiv. Number three, this administration has no interagency team engaged in the details. Therefore, I'm not very optimistic that they're going to achieve results.
