@mrsbistro I find that unless students have a tablet or something like that then Jamboard/Desmos just doesn’t match the connection you can make by drawing with a pencil. I integrate graphing windows into guided notes. I have though had success having Ss focus on plotting points with Desmos

@ddmeyer Students cut the length 28% shorter. I think I’d ask them to make the rectangle 10% shorter. For whatever reason the syntax has always made more sense to me with smaller numbers. Then I’d ask what percent of the original was left. Then maybe do a few more until we cross 50%
@mathgeek76 In Ed school one of my professors put it this way (I’m rephrasing): you’d never say “I can’t read” just because you can’t decipher Ulysses or don’t like poetry. Just because you didn’t like math class doesn’t mean you can’t or don’t math

@AnkerMath @mr_middle_2 @Desmos Not gonna lie, I still have them do some easy examples on paper esp for horizontal transformations because I think making a table an plotting points reinforces why things seem “backwards”. But now I’m thinking how I can accomplish the same w/ the sketch feature...
@MrsSheehanMath @Desmos I like the image solution mentioned later. You could also use a graph slide instead and have them input the function in math input or a table, then use CL so it will graph in the graph slide. I often do this when I feel like I really need a note slide.
So after I spent weeks carefully planning to use breakouts to give students meaningful interactions with me and each other my district tells us today that to conserve bandwidth we can only have 1 meet going and in-class students can't join it. COOL #iteachmath #hybridlearning
@ddmeyer So regardless of the content of a lesson, you are always responsible for showing students what positive collaboration looks like
@ddmeyer As teachers we may know which ideas aren’t going to really help with a problem, but students may not. You have to be willing and able to follow an idea and draw something positive from it

I am at that point in my anxiety over starting hybrid teaching in a few weeks that I’m thankful to have so many college recs to write. At least I can feel productive and not completely lost for part of the day #iteachmath

Has anyone used slack in the classroom? If so, how'd it go? My district wants us to stick with google meet pretty exclusively to limit platforms students need to learn, but I think my high school students are probably pretty adept at learning these things. #MTBoS #iteachmath
