If I recall, people at my local GW hated Ward because his rules were always the most broken nonsense. I believe 5th edition GK and Blood Angels were his, as well as High Elves 8th (those are the ones I remember). His treatment of GK turned them into grenade caddies where they weren't the cream of the crop martial warriors like they were in the 3rd edition Demonhunters book, but rather a ton of their power came from equipped grenades - I seem to recall Psych out grenades and rad grenades being especially powerful and it felt super lame to play against. His 5th edition codexes were so incredibly strong. High Elves in 8th had Banner of the World Dragon, cracked spells and wargear, and I remember the Frostheart phoenix was especially bonkers. You can't gaslight me into thinking Ward was this godlike figure we're just misremembering. You groaned when you found out your book was written by Cruddace. You groaned when you found out your buddies' book were written by Ward.

Very cool! What general area, if you don't mind me asking (purely out of curiosity)? I wish I met the qualifications for Chesterton in our area, because the pay is the closest and, honestly, it sounds incredible, but I don't know Latin and my background has increasingly emphasized technology/computer science, which doesn't fit with CA.

I really, really want to work in Catholic education. We've got a Chesterton Academy opening up next year and 3 nearby parochial schools (I'm in the center and they're a 30-40 mile bubble around me). To be a teacher I'd have to be willing to accept: 1) about 50k less for the k-8 schools, and about 30-40k less for Chesterton. 2) no tenure (which I hate, but it's no use pretending it's not a real benefit to me a decade in) 3) no/fewer raises - there's no units or yearly steps so the salary increases are minimal. You can call it a ministry, but it's not like I'm not already active in the Church and I've got my own kids to provide for and it sucks that it's nowhere near close. I'd love to get out of public education. It's also a bummer because in addition to being very expensive, there are service hours requirements, too. I'm used to it because I went k-8 at one of these schools, but my wife didn't, and it was a hard sell before we found out we're having baby #4. Pretty much guaranteed we're not going to do Catholic schools now, and we're the target demographic for it.

I feel like there's a lot at play here. The stats and even the dive rolling are a bit of an abstraction. I'm generally well-spoken in real life, so this kind of thing favors me, but that's where I find it hard to believe that a character with, say, low CHA and INT would be able to convincingly make a speech or argument in a way that their character actually would be capable of. If they could, the stats should exemplify what should be expected. Someone also pointed out that we only do this for this specific player interaction - if I offered to do a bunch of pushups or lift a heavy object, could I just RP my way past a Strength check?

As others have pointed out, it's a bit odd to include your labor in this calculation, especially when not every hour is created equal for work, nor do I work every hour. It seems it's more about opportunity cost - if you were working or could be, then the value you'd gain over cooking it yourself is something you could consider a net loss if you stopped doing that to make food. But if I'm at home at 6pm after work, it's not a fair thing to say my hourly rate is so high... When I'm not actually working. When I'm cooking for my family of 4-5, I'm not sure how it'd be more efficient or economical using my hourly rate in this case, but it's probably closer if it's just me. I do think burgers are a hard comparison at times - value meal and kids meals are pretty good in terms of value and beef can be expensive.

So, not the the Vong War, but this is acquired in book 3 or 4 of the X-Wing series by Michael Stackpole. I highly recommend that series (especially the first few with Corran Horn as the protagonist), and the follow-up book, I, Jedi, which follows Corran as he joins Luke's first class of Jedi trainees in his New Jedi Order. The Star Destroyer in question, Errant Venture, is owned by his father in law, Booster Terrik after the events that happen in book 4. Honestly, some of my favorite star wars. Wedge is also a key figure for the series, and it's great fun.

This is pretty accurate! It's not like a looter shooter, like Arc, where you've got an inventory and such. Your hunter has guns, tools, and consumables. You can loot consumables, find guns, and replenish tools in the map, but generally speaking none of it is rare/stuff you can't buy as part of the in game currency loop. Your guns and consumables are all easily replaced, and with very, very few exceptions everything you could find in game, you can buy. Your account levels (bloodline) which doesn't reset unless you prestige. Otherwise, losing a hunter is a fairly minor thing, though keeping a hunter alive nets you points to spend on perks (like staying in scope when shooting those weapons or being able to fan certain pistols). Really it's not a big loss. Honestly, Hunt is my favorite game and I'm not usually fan of extraction shooters. It's got a great aesthetic and the guns feel pretty well balanced (and most are based on real guns from the period). I'd definitely give it try. It's very, very cool

Sort of adjacent but that's how I felt teaching English. It was the default view of my district's team that every kid basically came from a dysfunctional family so every book had to cater to everything alternative. I'm hardly kidding when I say they wanted almost every book in my classroom to be about a angry, homeless, immigrant lesbians with peg legs. It was so depressing.
