@reddit_lies Try explaining that the word slave is problematic and offensive. The word comes from slav which is the ethnicity of eastern Europeans who were regularly enslaved by the ottoman Turks. If you think about it the word slave is just as offensive as the word negro.

@worstall I think it might be worse than that. A wise AI strategy might be to spend £1bn on hardware. Then the clever bods can play on it and create the software. But govt minister doesn't understand that so they still manage to f*** it up .

@ArchRose90 I think a better option would be to say that if they travel to the UK they will be detained at the airport. Then, they will be interviewed by a 'Jeremy Paxman' style interviewer for an hour or two. The interview is then available for all to see.

I guess that you think that this makes the UK more attractive to foreign investment. Those foreign investors will put £bns in but take even more bns out. Are you happy with that?

@SarahCoombesWB Suppose we said that ceremonial knives could be carried lawfully but, the bearer is strictly liable for any harm caused by any use of that knife by any individual. Make it a criminal offence to carry the knife in public without insurance.

@worstall They like heat pumps. But dual use is bad because Aircon is bad. In the UK, Aircon is only needed when it's sunny. So dual use makes good use of the excess energy we generate when it's sunny. This improves the economic case for heat pumps and has no carbon cost. So why oppose it

@worstall We engineer a world in which people get to believe, and act upon, whatever AI slop they want. So long as, if they are wrong, they are the ones paying the price. If being wrong costs you money you suddenly become very interested in being right.

@ScottMGreer Canada has lower sentences for black criminals and higher ones for white criminals. Black criminals are more likely to commit crime against other black people and whites against whites. So law abiding whites get better protection from crime than law abiding blacks. Is that right?

@russellfranks @KasraAarabi @SimonDanczuk Weirdly i think their charitable status should remain. When they fill in the gift aid forms to reclaim the tax they have to give the names and addresses of their uk based donors. Maybe, just maybe, the charity commission have been asked by MI5 to cut them a bit of slack.
