And here are some of the co-gen plants on the@California_ISO grid that I believe are running continuously. Note that most are related to refining - except the paper plants in Oxnard. These plants have an average capacity factor in the high 80s. Mystery solved?
Reasons given for this include co-gen plants, isolated pockets on grid, and/or the need to have some older plants running at low levels to prepare for the evening ramp. I am proposing that this generation is almost entirely due to co-gen plants running continuously. cont...
