The BBC's 2nd error was to compare apples with oranges. They sorted the ~10.5k employers by their median pay gap (in 2022) & selected the median employer whose pay gap was 9.4%. This is a reasonable start but it differs from the median man & woman as measured by ONS. /3
On 5th April last year, @BBCNews incorrectly reported the UK #GenderPayGap in 2022 was unchanged from 2017. In fact the #PayGap had narrowed by 4pts. I complained about this error but it was deemed out of time. On Friday, I hope @BBC does not make the same mistake again. 1/8

@sundersays I agree with your take. This appears to misunderstand the Equality Act. The only new thing I can see is the proposal to allow a single combined characteristic claim. That might not go as planned as interactions between characteristics are not always straightforward. /1
