I am not saying AI will never improve, but hallucinations are not being solved, and AI progress is plateauing hard. If I'm wrong, I'm wrong, that's the nature of writing my opinion on the internet. I do not think I am wrong, and have written thousands of words to explain why

@edzitron Check out what @hsu_steve is doing over at superfocusAI to solve the hallucination problem
@edzitron Actually, by wasting money on this "💩" AI research has been set back by decades. After the bubble implodes, it will be set back by even more, because of sentiment. The post 90s culture change hurt R&D in the name of greed. Some got rich, we all lost time and potential.
@edzitron I'm gobsmacked to hear you say "AI progress is plateauing hard." We must live on different planets. Every day I see a new model or tool that marks a significant step in AI assistance with text, images, sound/music, robotic control, protein folding, etc...
@edzitron @SeamusBlackley Any studies on network size and the length of adolescence?
@edzitron If you die today because of a doctor using AI improperly now it hardly matters if it improves 5 years from now or not.
@edzitron Assuming by AI you mean LLM's, they are meant to 'hallucinate'. That's literally what they do. They are like an automated thesaurus. The issue here is that they are so good at it, so convincing, and so _useful_, people are assuming they should do something else.
@edzitron Just a little more compute. And nuclear fusion. And more data, somehow.
@edzitron It's crazy that half the time the engineers of the AI tools have no idea why it produces certain results. Yes, it's a morass of hallucinating and randomness on top of made up facts. AI is a mess.
@edzitron @focusfronting So my "AI is just Muzak on steroids" take is accurate after all? Sad.
@edzitron The sooner you stop calling it AI, the sooner you'll understand its limits.
