so most of these are really weird and done specifically to try and hide how bad the detail is, but i'm loving this "biycle repaich" shop which has a double car next to it. This is the best they can do!!!

@edzitron ed i love you and i agree with you on virtually everything else but i just cant understand why this is your angle on ai. does not seem rational to act as though it will not continue to improve, feels like you gotta know how poorly these takes are going to age
@TobyHusseinKeit @edzitron That is exactly right. Things only improve and never hit a structural constraint, or diminishing returns, or physical limits. Also, I take a rocket to get to work and I never get sick because of the nanomachines in my blood, to mention two past hypes that didn't fail at all.
@TobyHusseinKeit @edzitron It is a bad place to be when venture capitalists are throwing resources at these companies and they are completely incapable of execution.
@TobyHusseinKeit @edzitron The best they can do is keep adding polish but ultimately there is absolutely no solving the underlying “dreamingness” that AI relies on to produce outputs. It’s been present in every single iteration for a decade at least, including Sora.
@TobyHusseinKeit @edzitron I think what Ed is rightly calling out is that we may not actually be in the MIDDLE of an S-curve on this technology but rather at the top of it where the gains are extremely minimal. Sam Altman asking the UAE / world for 7 trillion dollars for AI chip development is an example
@TobyHusseinKeit @edzitron there is no mechanism for what they're calling "AI" to overcome these hurdles. These aren't just bugs that will be ironed out, these are running up against the fundamental limits of the types of systems that are being used
@TobyHusseinKeit @edzitron Will you dolts ever give a second pitch that doesn’t boil down to “we’ll look into it”?
@TobyHusseinKeit @edzitron In my mind it's more just this
@TobyHusseinKeit @edzitron Haven't seen anything concrete to suggest they can fix the fatal flaws. Just a lot of hype and "don't worry we'll get to that"
