M FLARE: Two days without an M flare, then we get an M2 event from sunspot region AR3654 near Sun center at about 12:30 U.T. on 27 April. Note the flare seems to destabilize some coronal loop to its south, producing a west to east flow in them.
LARGE FILAMENT ERUPTION: It all starts in the small, bright region in the top left (NE) part of the image with a small flare. It destabilizes the adjacent filament that then erupts. This is probably the origin of the large CME off the SE limb near this time (see previous tweet).
CME WATCH - 2024.06.26: A series of big eruptions but SOHO only registered 4 CMEs today. It starts with a large but slow and faint CME off the NE limb, just followed by a brighter one off the SW limb. Finally, two almost simultaneous events off the NW and SE limbs.
GEOMAGNETIC STORM: The Earth experienced a short G1-level geomagnetic storm (Kp=5) this evening. The Bz (vertical component of the interplanetary magnetic field) turned south but the solar wind speed was low (300-350 km/s).
CME WATCH - 2024.04.24: The Sun continued to pump out CMEs at an enhanced rate (9 today). Again, there seemed to be no region of the limb that was not involved.
FLARE OF THE DAY - 2024.04.24: Today the Sun produced 11 C flares and 5 M flares. An M2 flare closed out the day from sunspot region AR3657 on the SW limb.
CME WATCH - 2024.04.23: SOHO registered 11 CMEs today - a big jump in CME activity. They seem to be coming from every quadrant of the Sun and many of them are quite substantial. Some may become geoeffective of them in a day or two.
ANOTHER M FLARE BUT FROM A DIFFERENT REGION: Looking at the video you might guess where the flare will occur, but you would be wrong! It was an M3 flare at 17:40 U.T. from the tiny region to the SW of the main spot group. A CME from here could affect the Earth, if there was one.
TWO M FLARES FROM THE SAME REGION IN JUST 6 HOURS: Sunspot region 3654 in the SE part of the Sun has produced 2 M flares in the last 6 hours. 1) An M3.6 at 03:20 U.T. and 2) An M1 at 8:20 U.T. Both seemed to produce ejecta, so CMEs are likely but too far east to affect Earth.
M Flare in Progress: an M3.6 flare is currently occurring on the Sun from sunspot region AR3656 in the SE part of the Sun. It peaked at 03:20 UT.
CME WATCH - 2024.04.22: SOHO reports 7 CMEs today. Most activity seems to be off the southern polar region but there are two quite bright CMEs: one off the E limb and the other off NW limb.
FOUR M FALRES IN 3 HOURS: Can you spot them all?
CORONAL HOLE ALERT: 2 coronal holes: one on the solar equator and another to the SE. Note the location of the Earth wrt the coronal hole. It is pointing right at us but the coronal hole must rotate west for a couple more days to be connected to us magnetically.
HIGHEST SUNSPOT NUMBER IN 20 YEARS: The current daily sunspot number (270), a measure of solar activity, has reached its highest number since August 2002 (281). That was the peak of Solar Cycle 23. So much for those claiming we are in a Grand Solar Minimum!
CME WATCH - 2024.04.21: Seven CMEs recorded today by SOHO LASCO coronagraph. Most of the action seems to be in the SW near to the polar region, perhaps some from that repeating jet region (see earlier tweet). There is some minor activity of the NW limb too.
FLARE OF THE DAY: There were three M flares in the last 24 hours. The brightest of these was an M3.5 from sunspot region AR3638 in the SW part of the Sun peaking at 21:52 UT. Note it seems to set off another tiny flare, C3, to its southwest a few minutes later.
FLARE OF THE DAY - 2024-04-20: No real dominant flares but we had 12 C flares from various regions - see if you can spot them all. Images from SDO AIA 94A (6 MK). Note the new region coming over the SE limb - looks promising.
CME WATCH - 2024.04.20: Five CMEs registered by SOHO's LASCO coronagraph. After the two significant CMEs from yesterday, not a lot seems to be going on There are a couple of "puffs" off the SW limb.

@JunkScience @elonmusk Exxon’s scientists were right about CO2’s role in global warming in 1980. The predictions of the effects of the Pinatubo volcanic explosion in the 1990s were a test of climate models - they got it right. Sea ice has declined for decades, as predicted. As have glaciers.
