Autistic masking often comes with a toll on mental health. Constantly conforming to societal expectations can lead to exhaustion, anxiety, & loss of self-esteem. With more acceptance & understanding, we can empower individuals to embrace their true selves. #Autistic

11K Followers 4K Following Neurodiversity Celebration Week aims to bring about worldwide neurodiversity acceptance, equality and inclusion in schools and workplaces.I’ve said this before .. but when you don’t think you’ll make it through something and you do .. the possibilities for your life suddenly feel endless. It feels like you are living on borrowed time
I LOVE this!! I absolutely ADORE it! It is everything I strive for! Build people up. Don’t destroy them! The destructive nature of humans is bewildering to me!! There’s so much beauty & joy in us. Why are we so ready to squash it in others?!
You are capable of living on a variety of different time lines, all differing based on the decisions you make today.
Just discovered a thing called silent book club in Denver where you show up, introduce yourself/book, order a drink, then read silently for 45 minutes. Thoughts?
Whenever an autistic person is bullied, so often the victim wrongly gets blamed for the bullying on the basis that they're autistic. So often I've heard "I wouldn't be bullied or treated badly if I weren't autistic", something I've thought about myself at times too
It's not that I think it's impossible for Autistic people and non Autistic people to be close/best friends, I just haven't personally experienced it, and it is so much easier when you say 'I struggle to watch TV' and the other person understands, rather than thinks you're snooty.
Autistic masking often comes with a toll on mental health. Constantly conforming to societal expectations can lead to exhaustion, anxiety, & loss of self-esteem. With more acceptance & understanding, we can empower individuals to embrace their true selves. #Autistic
When I was first told I'm autistic 5 years ago, I was miserable wondering why I was so broken. I was on the phone crying hard while drunk asking, "Why is everything so easy for everyone else but so hard for me?" That's when I was told I'm autistic. I didn't know anything about…
People don't choose to catch a cold People don't choose to have cancer People don't choose to be blind People don't choose to break a leg People also don't choose to have an eating disorder
“There’s too many Autistic/ADHD people” Oh sorry, there’s a limit?
my problem is that if i put things away in cupboards i forget they exist but if i keep things out on display i get overwhelmed by clutter
I honestly really really give up. They say to reach out when you need support. I had my last message ignored by out of hours mh support. I don’t want this life. It’s full of pain and sadness and I have nothing in my life to live for.
It's Autism Awareness Month, so time to set some things straight about autism... What people think autism is: - What it looks like in movies What autism actually is:
People warn about the 'dangers of self-diagnosis', but if I hadn't recognised my OCD traits as an illness, I'd be dead. Multiple mental health professionals agree I have it, but they claim I don't need a diagnosis. This leaves me in limbo. 1/4
For #AutismAwarenessMonth I want to emphasize that when I say autism I mean autism. Not neurodiverse. Not neurodivergent. When I say autism I. mean. AUTISM. Say the word.
Autistic individuals are often expected to change themselves for others, purely because they experience & react to the world differently to what is seen as the ‘norm’. There is no norm, we’re ALL different with equally valid experiences. #AutismAcceptanceWeek #AutismAwarenessDay
Someone tell me why as an autstic person I cannot deal with sounds in the environment in but I have no issue listening to music on my noise cancelling headphones at the loudest setting?
