Anger is worthless. It only makes the world a worse place. It only makes the holder of it feel worse. Stop the cycle. Treat yourself how you’d treat someone else.
7 Stoic lessons from Marcus Aurelius: 1. Be tolerant with others and strict with yourself 2. Don't be afraid to ask for help 3. Anger is the opposite of strength 4. No one can make you upset—you choose to be 5.The obstacle is the way 6. Helping others helps you 7. Memento mori
“Death: there’s nothing bad about it at all except the thing that comes before it – the fear of it” – Seneca
Seneca compares revenge to returning a bite to a dog or a kick to a mule. They were accepting, in a way, the impotence of us fragile humans. Stuff happens to us. People do cruel things to each other. You can’t get even in a world like that. You’ll never beat them at that game.
What’s in your control: - what you do - what you say - what you think What isn’t: - what other people do - what other people say - what other people think
“Anyone who likes may make things easier for himself by viewing them with equanimity” – Seneca
“No wandering. In every impulse, give what is right: in every thought, stick to what is certain.” – Epictetus
“You have power over your mind – not outside events. Realize this, and you will find strength.” – Marcus Aurelius
It sucks that you were lied to, stolen from, abused, cheated. There’s no way you can get that back. But what you can do is make sure that the most important thing of all remains in your possession: Your love of other people. Your tolerance for them. Your willingness to do good.
*Marcus Aurelius performing the public duties of emperor while a plague devastates Rome, the Tiber River floods, his children keep dying, he's betrayed by his most trusted general, and his health fails*
6 things you should stop doing (according to the Stoics): 1. Worrying about other people’s opinions 2. Judging other people 3. Putting things off to the future 4. Holding onto the past 5. Arguing with reality 6. Thinking you're going to live forever
“To accept it without arrogance, to let it go with indifference.” — Marcus Aurelius
We can, to borrow an old expression, hate the sin while still loving the sinner. Because what they do, and how they act is not up to us. The good we choose to still see in them? That’s in our control.

“Do not seek to have events happen as you want them but instead want them to happen and your life will go well.” — Epictetus
Things can get between you and your goal, of course, but nothing can stop you from getting started. Nothing can stop you from making a beautiful choice for yourself today.
5 habits that are killing your productivity: 1. You don’t wake up early (Marcus Aurelius) 2. You focus on what’s outside your control (Epictetus) 3. You’re in the wrong crowd (Marcus Aurelius) 4. You don’t know how to say “no” (Seneca) 5. You think you’ll live forever (Seneca)
“People try to get away from it all—to the country, the beach, the mountains. You wish that you could too. Which is idiotic: you can get away from it anytime. By going within. Nowhere you can go is more peaceful—more free of interruptions—than your own soul.” | Marcus Aurelius
There is a difference between urge and action, being tempted and indulging temptation. The urge is human. The ability to restrain from, to mitigate, to redirect the urge? That’s Stoicism.
9 ways to be still right now: 1. Go for a walk 2. Take some time to journal 3. Lock in to a creative activity 4. Strenuous exercise 5. Do good to feel good 6. Stop watching the news 7. Read 8. Put your phone away 9. Cultivate relationships
