This helps get students talking (building their ownership of the learning), while also helping me gauge their prior knowledge (content and linguistically), while also preteaching vocabulary for the grade level content and/or text/story vocabulary.
Why do Spanish nouns change meaning based on grammatical gender? It’s about how language reflects our perception. Take ‘el frente’ and ‘la frente’ for instance. The masculine ‘frente’ refers to a physical front, while the feminine ‘frente’ points to a part of the body.🧠💡 #TRIS

Using pictures within high interest text or locating an image that pairs with content. Then, using the pwim (picture word inductive model), I have students help me label. After labeling, cowriting captions to the images using an inferencing stem. More in comments

This helps get students talking (building their ownership of the learning), while also helping me gauge their prior knowledge (content and linguistically), while also preteaching vocabulary for the grade level content and/or text/story vocabulary.
