Pritzker’s new Executive Order 2026-05 and the “EngAging Illinois” plan sounds nice on paper — more “investing in caregivers,” expanded home care, better compensation, recruitment drives. But in corrupt Illinois, this is a flashing red light for massive new fraud in caregiver payments. Here’s the reality: Most of this flows through Medicaid’s Community Care Program, HCBS waivers, and home services — programs already notorious for ghost billing, inflated hours, unqualified “caregivers,” and family members cashing checks while neglecting seniors. We’ve seen cases of paid caregivers letting elderly clients die covered in filth while still billing the state. Forged timesheets. Suspended nurses signing up as aides. Straight-up theft. This plan ramps up the volume: more paid FAMILY caregivers, more workforce expansion, more awareness campaigns that will drive applications and claims — all while Illinois struggles with basic oversight. The state has a documented track record of wasting hundreds of millions (if not billions) in social services fraud. Now they’re creating a fancy new Commission to coordinate even more spending on the same leaky systems. “Freedom from fraud” is mentioned in the plan? That’s cute. Words on paper don’t stop timesheet fraud or provider scams when enforcement is weak and the money spigot opens wider. Taxpayers and actual vulnerable seniors deserve better than another bloated initiative that predictably funnels public dollars into connected providers and shady operators. Demand real audits, mandatory Electronic Visit Verification everywhere, strict background checks, and clawbacks — not more commissions. Illinois seniors aren’t props for political photo-ops. Illinois has a massive economic problem. @GovPritzker's preferred strategy is to simply ignore it, but that won't make it go away. While much of the rest of the country experiences an economic expansion, Illinois job creators are being almost entirely left behind. The state just posted one of the lowest job creation rates in the nation since Pritzker took office. Here is the current state of our economic health: >Illinois added just 54,000 jobs between January 2019 and January 2026, a mere 0.9% increase that ranks 43rd in the U.S. >Our unemployment rate hit 4.9% in January 2026, the 8th-worst in the country. Meanwhile, our neighboring states added a combined 311,800 jobs. The primary cause of this? An obscenely hostile environment for businesses. Illinois has the 3rd-highest corporate income tax in the nation and one of the most burdensome regulatory codes in the country. To combat skyrocketing gas prices in Illinois, we can and should continue to talk about the gas tax, but the bigger culprit is the state double taxing us at the pump. Illinois is one of only a few states that double taxes gas, levying a sales tax on top of gas taxes. Worse, because this sales tax is a percentage (6.25%), the more expensive gas becomes, the more taxes we pay. With the state bringing in so much more revenue than anticipated, JB Pritzker and Springfield could do something to help temporarily lower our pain at the pump. But they won't, because they think you'll blame Trump and Republicans for gas prices, and winning a petty partisan fight is more important to them than helping working families.
