A lot of people push back on me when I state that learning to trade is developing the 'art of learning to guess well', and then placing money and career on the line to back your guesses. People love to think they are doing something scientific , based on conclusions reached from deep insights and concrete knowledge backed by the application of rationality and logic. Most hate the idea that they are guessing. - This doesn't fit in well with this application of science mindset, which our education system likes to imbibe us with. - Hence the pushback I get!!!! As a simple test, I asked CHAT GPT what the opposite of a Guess is, the answer; "The opposite of a guess is a conclusion or certainty. While a guess involves making an estimation or assumption without sufficient information, a conclusion is drawn from concrete evidence or knowledge, indicating a definitive understanding of a matter." Well if you can reach a conclusion based on 'concrete evidence in trading', there is not going to be much reward available. That is beacuse there is zero risk involved. The game of trading is a game of Risk and Reward. Thats it, a Game of Guessing. Realising that can be empowering and liberating. Once you accept that you are Guessing for a living, or to put it more scientifically, playing 'The Probability Game', you can free yourself from seeking certainty, and start engaging with probablistic thinking. Once you can do that, you start learning how to do it 'Better'. - Once you start to do that, you are on the path to becoming a Better Trader. All this is covered extensively in my book, published one year ago today, 'Mastering the Mental Game of Trading'.
