Grip strength for forearm health is important, but it’s also important to utilize exercises that do not include the thumb to increase strength of the muscles that are in close contact with the UCL.
When workload is more than tissue capacity, injury begins to manifest. Stay strong and reduce fatigue with workload management
Throwing is an endurance exercise therefore pitchers can focus less on endurance training and put more emphasis on strength training #stoprunningpoles
Dynamic shoulder strength is 🔑 1:1 ratio of strength in IR and ER helps reduce unwanted stress elsewhere. A disproportionate ratio of increased ER strength to IR could predispose to UCL injuries
We should caution a pitcher under the age of 17 to enter a velocity enhancement program. They need to meet baselines of strength and athleticism help mitigate risk of injury
Increasing velo in the off-season HAS to be combined with increasing strength. Monitoring grip strength provides an easy indicator of forearm and shoulder strength #pitching #baseball @TKremchekMD
Lack of drive hip internal rotation when pitching is linked to reduced ground forces being transferred up the chain. Lack of drive hip extension when pitching is linked to increased elbow torque.
The lumbar spine is often the victim not the culprit. Always assess thoracic spine and hip mobility when dealing with someone who presents with lower back pain
Layback Layback is a buzzword in the baseball community. Most pitchers understand what layback looks like, but achieving true layback can be a difficult task. Think of setting the catapult to release the ball. Don’t over extend from the lumbar spine!!
Having good lead leg lock when pitching is strongly correlated to reduced torque on the shoulder and elbow. Reduce energy leaks!!!
